Royals trade De La Rosa and cash for a player to be named later?? That
makes no sense at all, he was doing quite well this year and I actually
expected him to be called up before Hochevear. Wonder what they are
thinking??

KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI (TICKER) -The Kansas City Royals traded pitcher Jorge
De La Rosa and cash to the Colorado Rockies for a player to be named on
Wednesday.
De La Rosa went 11-16 with a 5.64 ERA in 36 games - 33 starts - for the
Royals in 2006 and 2007 but has spent all of this season in the minor
leagues.

The lefthander is 3-0 with a 1.64 ERA, recording 23 strikeouts in 22 innings
with Class AAA Omaha.

"Jorge is a versatile lefthander with a good arm," Colorado general manager
Dan O'Dowd said.

Since De La Rosa is not on Kansas City's 40-man roster, he will be assigned
to Class AAA Colorado Springs by the Rockies.

The 27-year-old is 15-23 with a 5.85 ERA in 97 career games with the
Milwaukee Brewers and Royals.

This is strange. We do owe the Rockies a player in return for Ramon
Ramirez and I think he was on the short list for them to choose from.
Sending them De La Rosa and cash seems a bit steep for a player to be
named later, unless it includes our obligation to them for Ramirez.

Well, hopefully we are getting someone who can field and bat. Overall,
our pitching does not seem too bad. Whether looking at our starters or
relievers, a new player that can hit would be nice. Maybe someone to
replace TPJ. Smile

I checked the news wire again this morning and I did not see that the
Royals had announced who they got in the trade for De La Rosa.

Tooks like Ramon Ramirez was the player to be named later..it was all a
matter of symantecs. Kinda disapointed that it was De La Rosa that was sent
along...but I guess they know what they are doing.

We'll just have to wait and see how this turns out. Ramirez has looked
pretty good and De La Rosa has been unconsistent in the bigs.

I agree about DLR. He has flashes of good but his flashes of bad seemed to
rub me the wrong way. Look like he was sent to AAA to build his value (which
he did) instead of being at the major level with a 0-3 8.00 ERA and looking
to dump him. It's not like I see him helping the Rockies. So far the
pitchers Dayton has dumped have all pretty much faded away.

Just an FYI...

De La Rosa does not appear to be the player to be named later in the Ramirez
trade. The transaction
listing on mlb.com says that De La Rosa was traded for a player to be named
later, not traded to
complete an earlier trade as it usually does in such cases. That means the
Rockies still owe us a
in the De La Rosa trade, and we owe them one in the Ramirez trade.

BTW...

He was called up saturday to the Rockies and got shelled for 9 runs in 4
innings...which is about what
I would have expected. He's never really impressed me as a pitcher. His
career stats show it too. He's
15-24 with an ERA of 6.05. The Royals felt they could do better, and decided
to trade him as a result..
He's a lefty though...and some times the powers that be see a lefty, and
just have to take a chance on
him, no matter how bad they are.

The Royals took a similar kind of chance with Mike Maroth over the winter,
signing him to a minor league
contract. They released him from Omaha on Friday after getting shelled down
there. Have to wonder if
his losing 21 games that year the tigers went 43-119 didn't have some long
lasting effects on him...
