Tigers looking like the real deal. Granderson makes an unreal catch.
D-Mat looks like he needs some rest. Even though it stinks to go into
the break having been swept, the time off willl help everyone.

I do think Theo should shop WMP and bring Jacoby back up. Not being
able to send WMP to AAA makes him a liability rather than as asset.
Let some other team deal with it.

Dice-K has been great his past few starts with minimal run support.

The whole team look like they need a rest. Hopefully, the break will
help them. Maybe Tito can sit down with a few guys and re-introduce
them to their bats.

It will be hard to find a GM as stupid as Theo was when he traded for
Pena. But just when you think you've seen it all, someone comes along
and proves that the well isn't completely dry. His defense, while
hardly stellar, has improved. Some NL team might be willing to take
him off their hands, but the Sox will need to pay his salary.

Hey, we can't win 'em all. Tigers are a really good team. Although I
would have liked to seen at least one win to give me hope for a
potential playoff matchup.

As far as Wily Mo...this has to go down as Theo's worst move. The guy
can't hit anything but an 88 MPH fastball. If the opposing pitchers
throw any sort of change or breaking ball, the guy is totally lost.
And I'll let his fielding speak for itself. Seeing Elsbury in this
guy's place would thrill me.

Didn't the Tigers sweep the Sox a couple of years ago going into the
all-star break? I think it might have been '04. I will have to check
on that...

Pena's trade value is as low as it could be. He showed last year that
he needs playing time. He needs to become some team's DH. If he could
get a season as a DH, I am sure he would hit 40. I feel for the kid.

send him down and hope somebody claims him. he just clogs up the roster and
the sox have guys ready.
it will be addition by subtraction. it was a bad deal to get him, just
getting rid of him will help.

With hindsight, you can say this. And its not like Arroyo is lighting
up the NL. He has been playing Tina to the rest of the league's Ike...

And exactly what makes you think that Theo ISN'T trying to shop Wily Mo?

He's made far worse moves.

Wily Mo hit one today...but it was pulled back into the park by Granderson
in one of the finest catches of the year. He also let a catchable ball get
over his head in left field. He also had a triple last night. <shrug>
We've been over this a thousand times. He's a kid who never got a chance to
develop and needs to play to improve...yada...yada...freakin' yada.

I'd love to replace him with Ellsbury, but I doubt they'll bring him up at
this point unless a starter gets hurt. They don't want to have him sit and
not develop properly...like Wily Mo. He also needs to play right now.

I hope a move is made to strengthen the bench. This series may have been a
blessing in demonstrating what improvements are needed to get ready for the
post season. Theo's greatest virtue has been recognizing and admitting his
mistakes, then fixing them...or at least trying to. That's all you can
ask...unless you know of some infallible executive you'd like to put in
charge. I don't know...is Gnork available?

And I think that it also has to be admitted and accepted that just because
you
want to make a move (i.e. a trade), it doesn't mean that you'll be able to
find
any willing partners.

Regarding Ellsbury, I agree about playing him full time, etc. OTOH, I think
that the Sox could really use the spark that he seems to bring to the game.
The problem is that short of an injury, even a minor one like Coco's recent
one, I don't see how you shoe-horn Ellsbury into the lineup, short of trying
to do a 4 man OF rotation, which I've NEVER heard actually tried on a
major league level.

there is a rumour on the SOSH board that the Pirates are possibly
interested in Pena, in a deal seeing Xavier Nady coming the other way.
Most of the posters there indicate that it would be a bonehead move by
the Pirates, but I forget what the other parts coming from the Red Sox
were.

That's a pretty important missing element. Ii would have to be a pretty
good prospect to make that swap.

Nady is a mediocrity. I wouldn't give up much to get him. Actually I think
the Sox would be better off with Moss replacing WMP and adding a decent
prospect to their system.

Gnork, I'm not sure at this point that WMP is worth a decent prospect.

Whatever. At this point you take the best you can get. I think he still has
value. I said earlier perhaps a B- or a C+ prospect. Either way the guy is
not likley to make it, but sometimes they do get a lot better.
