Ouch.

This is starting to look like it'll be the Worst Homestand Ever.

The only incentive I had for sticking around until the bitter end of
yesterday's 15-2 shellacking by the Mets was the knowledge that they'd be
giving out free Thirstbuster cards at the end of the game.

When I got to the stadium I thought the Mets fans who'd brought brooms
were being a bit presumptuous, but that was because I'd forgotten the
starting pitchers would be Pedro Martinez and Russ Ortiz.

They did that on Tuesday, too. What's the trigger for that?

Twelve or more strikeouts recorded by D-Backs pitchers during the game.
The promotion started back when Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling made the
giveaways commonplace.

Yeah. That seems to be a pattern, now. They strike out a ridiculous
number of guys, and get shellacked anyway.

Which says they're throwing a lot more strikes.

So the question is: did the pitching coach tell them to stop screwing
around trying to find the corners and con the batters? Or are they
doing it to retaliate for the way Grimsely's being treated?
