The Pirates, with new GM Neal Huntington directing yet another
rebuilding process, are discussing sending corner outfielder Xavier
Nady (.278 batting average, 20 homers, 72 RBI in '07) and center
fielder Nate McLouth (.258, 13, 38, 22 steals) to San Diego for third
base prospect Chase Headley (.330, 20, 78 for Double-A San Antonio).

I hate to see Nady go but McLouth hasn't really done much for this team
except to be one-of-two pretenders to the lead-off spot.

Not sure how I'd feel about this trade. Sure wouldn't mind seeing
Headly in the organization, he's put up some good numbers especially
when it comes to plate discipline. Making the trade as described
though probably puts Duffy back in line for center field at least
until McCutchen can be put back on track ... which I'm not sure is
possible under the "guidance" of Trent Jewitt... so while McClouth
isn't anything special another two seasons of Duffy and Wilson in the
lineup might be more than my enthusiasm for the Huntington era can
bear.

With the second pick in the draft the Pirates have a good shot at
Pedro Alvarez, a left handed hitting third baseman that looks to have
real star potential and could be ready just about the time the Pirates
are ready to give up on the Neil Walker at third delusions.

The good news is that if the rumor is true it means the new guy is at
least identifying the right kind of hitters the team needs to be
trying to acquire and that makes me feel better.
