Thinks have changed alot this past year. Do you think Unit and Schill are still
top five picks? Are Dontrelle and Webb top 10 picks? What do you think about
Gil Meche's value next year?

You mean top 10 among pitchers or top 10 overall? I would never draft a
pitcher in the first round. This year is a perfect picture of why not.
They are simply too injury prone. Yea, hitters can get hurt, but not nearly
as often. Looking at just one league, of the nine hitters taken in the
first round, only Tejada has been a real disappointment (even though a few
have had short term injuries), but all three pitchers have -- and the next
pitcher taken was Zito.

Top 16

Mulder, Mussina, Wood, Zito, Hudson, Prior, Halladay, Ortiz, Martinez,
Johnson, Schilling, Schmidt, Williams, Nomo, Loaiza, Moyer

Willis is getting hit too hard in the second half and Meche is tailing off a
bit. They're top 20, though.

Ortiz??? It doesn't matter if you're talking Russ or the dude from Cali,
neither belong anywhere near the top 10. How about Kevin Brown?? Roy
Oswalt??Halladay???

Somewhat, but I'm not sure how that relates to the discussion.

Since we're talkin' 2004, let me assert that Carlos Zambrano will be among the
top 10 in the NL, perhaps both leagues. Just my opinion.

I don't care which Ortiz you are talking about. Neither one is a top 10
pitcher. Russ Ortiz is a solid slightly above average pitcher who happens to
play for a team that is scoring him a lot of runs. His ERA is decent, not
great. His WHIP, although the best of his career, is nothing special. He
doesn't strike out that many. His only superior stat this year is wins,
which we all know is highly variable from year to year.

I'd take Prior before any of those 3

I know he's been hurt but I looked through all of these posts and not
once have I seen Matt Morris's name mentioned. I'm kinda surprised
since I see reference to pitchers who have been injured (Schilling,
Johnson, Oswalt, Pedro, Kevin Brown), or someone like Loaiza having a
career year with not much else in his history to sustain belief he'll
continue in that vein. Add a few long in the tooth pitchers (Moyer and
Williams) who might just as easily perform well in 2004 as not and I
can't see Morris not even getting a mention while people talk up
Willis and Webb.

Here's one take:
Group 1 - in no particluar order
The Oakland Trio (Mulder, Zito, Hudson)
Roy Halladay
Pedro Martinez
Kerry Wood
Mark Prior
Jason Schmidt
Roy Oswalt
Mike Mussina

Group 2
Matt Morris
Randy Johnson
Curt Schilling
Hideo Nomo
C.C. Sabathia
Jaime Moyer
Woody Williams
Joel Piniero
Kevin Brown
Javier Vazquez (assuming the Expos don't play all 81 home games in
Puerto Rico in 2004)

Willis and Webb, etc.? I'd wait another year - remember John Lackey.

These are my opinions drawn from my own conclusions and observations.
Your mileage may vary.

Disappointment may be too strong a word, but he's had some weak stretches.
Remember we were talking about picking pitchers in the top 10. I don't know
of any league where Clemens went in the top 10 (hence, why does he relate?)
and he certainly hasn't been a top 10 player.
