Man, I thought Lackey had tremendous stuff. The two doubles to give up
the one run (11 Ks!) were not bad pitches. His slider-curve thang was
definitely happening for him. Rocket looked pretty good, too. Only a
shade of his former overpowering stuff, but the old man knows how to
pitch.

Kendrick made two spectacular fielding plays.

I am nowheres near convinced Jeff Mathis is a major league hitter. He
makes Jose Molina look like Johnny Bench.

Kotchmann hit a vicious line drive foul ball, but he's something like
2 for 38 since his concussion, and you gotta wonder...

A real nail-biter, and I got to watch it all because once again FOX
and other natl. baseball televisors think everyone wants to see the
Damn Yanks every day. Why? You tell me...Bunch of overpaid,
underachieving losers.

And the color guy on the broadcast, Joe Girardi, did everything but
launch into an out-and-out cheer for the Yankees to win the game. What
a tool. What a bore. You'd think the Yankees had the 2nd best record
in baseball, not the Angels. He's probably drank the Bronx kool-aid
too: they can still come back and overtake the Bosox, if not get a
wild card. Afterall, they've spent all that money and begosh...THEY'RE
THE YANKEES!, with all the special sense of entitlement that goes with
that. Riiiiight. Girardi in the booth for the game is just another
reason why so many people (and myself, of course) hate the Yankmees.

Oh man! With the Angels up 2-1 in the bottom of the 13th, and a guy on
3rd with one out, K-Rod gets out of it. HUGE! Shields was great yet
again, and hasn't given up a run in what? 23 straight innings? Killer!
(But after K-Rod and Scot, I worry a lot about our pen. Speier is
reportedly throwing again, gaining weight back, etc. He can't get back
soon enough.)

Lackey's intensity today reminded me of Erstad's.

Great win, and the perfect game to watch for this adrenaline junky,
being socked in today with no car (in the shop) and isolated in my
glorified cabin way up in the Berkeley hills. I wish I could blow
cigar smoke right in $teinbrenner's face.

I hope they can take the series tomorrow...

GO ANGELS!

With that lineup in a game like this, you just wait and wait for them to hit
a dinger and end the game. And Scioscia extending shields 3 innings, then
K-Rod two... I just kept waiting but it never happened. Booyah!

Hope we blow them out today because our bully is shot.

Great game, freaking great game.

Today was just one of those games. (NYY beats us 12-0. Earl Weaver was
once asked what his favorite play was in baseball and he said it was
"a three-run homer." Yanks got three of them today. Weaver may have
been asked about the "most exciting play," but now I've veered from my
point...and I do have one.) While gnork's Qs/comments/sarcasm above
was aimed at Mr. Kennedy, I can see both points. When Santana decides
to mentally meltdown, he doesn't pussy around. ERA for today was 27 or
so. He's obviously a head case. And that's why I see Kennedy's point.

I've seen some genius pitching from Santana, and he's STILL young. I
think he can still get over the mental hump. When a guy's got a bum
elbow, he's usually screwed. I still see a big possible upside to
Santana, and am willing to give him more time, but even I have limits
to patience. Let's see what he does in the 2nd half. Let's see if he
can get his mind in gear on the road.

gnorkmeister may be saying, "Gawd, whatta fool!" but then I've been
called far worse.

Here's to a 1st half that wasn't half-bad, and let us see them keep it
up in the 2nd half.

For now, rest.

Girardi has close ties to the Yankees. He did a hell of a job with the
Marlins last year. I am sure he wants to be the next Yankee manager. Towards
that goal he is now doing a little ass kissing.

I though he would especially given the hitters due up. Melky Cabrera struck
out 5 times.

Ahh, but I admit I was foolish enough to have THOUGHT about Pedro
while I half-heartedly defended Ervin. Seriously though, the He Looks
Like The Next Pedro thang has gone for me. I just want him to pitch on
the road like he does at home, and in the face of any possible "Who's
Your Daddy?"s.

But to make my point: I thought the Pedro thing, so my foolishness
stands.

What about today? Do you have any more ridiculous, unsupportable insane
comments about Santana? I think they should have traded him when his value
was high.

LOL, the dorkmeister slammed me? Guess my killfile works. Usually his
posts consist of nothing more than slamming people for typos or hurling
insults. I have long given up on him having anything sustantitive to
contribute.
