For the most part I have been very pleased with the job Jerry Manuel
has done. His ability to run a game and motivate his team and
communicate with the press are all far better than his predecessor.

He has made sure to get Endy into games late to tighten the outfield
defense.

But why won't he take out Delgado for defense? I understand that Endy
is a gold glove caliber outfielder and that he has no one comparable to
that for firstbase. But Delgado is so awful that I would think Easley
would be a solid upgrade for the position. Evans and Murphy played 1B
in the minors and likely offer more range than Delgado.

When Delgado misplayed the 9th inning grounder last night it just
reinforced the notion that he should be lifted for late game defense.

The way the bullpen implodes, late in games, he needs his bat in the lineup.

That's actually one of few things he does that I don't like. He makes
defensive replacements in close games (usually Endy) as early as the 7th
inning, which is way too early if you're going to do it at all. I'll
always take keeping the bats in the lineup, especially given the Mets
bullpen lately.

Taking Delgado's bat out of the lineup in a 1 run game with Heilman
pitching is playing with fire - despite what almost happened last night.
