OMG, hope Sabean ain't looking....

The Giants are leading the league in batting average in June, are 4th
overall. About 12 places better than any of us would have placed them
before the season.

The pitching is as expected, with Sanchez being a mild surprise, and Zito
finally looked like the old Zito (for one game). As Zito is a second half
pitcher, if he finally gets it together, that is a plus.

The team is young, scrappy, and aggressive. They make "young" mistakes,
but sometimes play over their heads, which should be expected of young
teams. Sometimes, they beat teams they shouldn't beat on paper.

They are streaky, another aspect expected of young teams.

Their lackings are obvious: no power, and bad defense. Bad defense is to
be expected of a young team, which will often play undisciplined in the
field, as the players have not really learned discipline at their
defensive positions yet.

We wouldn't even be talking about this if not for the obvious weakness of
the NL West.

Aurilia and Durham are both smoking the ball right now. Vizquel, while
not hitting, is showing off the same glove that won him many Gold Glove
awards.

Even Sabean, in his wildest nightmares, won't be thinking of any of these
three as part of the future Giants. Things are working out. Play them,
hope they get hot, and try to trade them to a contender.

Would a power bat give this team a chance to contend? Short term fix, but
very positive vibes. All rumors say that Sexton is available.

Or, if any trades are available, should we take prospects?

I hate to say this, but my memories of teams like this is that they lose
the magic real fast. Real life levels of abilities come back to haunt,
and the "magic" just isn't there any more.

I'd take the prospects, and enjoy the youngest, most exciting (in a
number of ways, not always positive) Giant team we've seen in a while,
while looking toward the future.

Gee, what a copycat, straight from my post. And he supposedly killfiled
me...

I was wondering why every time after I pointed out that he never talks about
the Giants, he'd start posting about the Giants for a little bit, even
though he can't see my posts. Strange, isn't it?

Bwahahahahahahahaha.....

Streaky? The only long streaks they have had have
been losing streaks. Have they won more than 4
games in a row? Losing streaks so far Yes.
Winning Streaks so far NO. With that being said
a nice 10 game winning streak will thrust them right
into the picture.

Sexton is not a power bat.

Aw, now, Butch, put on a happy face! I figured that we'd spend the
entire season in the cellar, and so anything above that is good ..
there is something to be said for low expectations. This season maybe
isn't the most exciting or successful but it has been interesting.
I've learned to take joy from little pleasures, like Zito's game
today . .. it was so unexpected, like a present from someone you'd
written off . . . those 2 HRs were great today, I love it when rookies
get a chance to show us what they've got.
