At the bottom of CNNSI's recap of Monday's game:

"Despite excellent weather, the Pirates drew only 33,600 for their last two
home games - 14,451 on Monday. The small crowds followed an organized fan
protest against ownership during the club's 15th consecutive losing season."

Now tell me again that it wasn't a success. The national media is riding
this horse. And the thing is, success breeds success, so you can bet your
ass it won't be the last walkout this season. Wait until the losses get in
the 90's down the stretch.

It's funny how very stubborn ole Jimmy is. The Nuttys and McCrotchy could
come out and admit it publicly that they are stealing from us and he would
still kiss their asses and blame the lack of a salary cap on this train
wreck of a team we call the Pirates.

It's like that old Monty Python Holy Grail movie when the guy gets both arms
cut off and claims that it was only a flesh wound. Ole Jimmy continues to
ignore the facts that are starring him squarely in the face.

Yeah, if it hadn't been for the walkout Saturday, they would
have sold out Sunday & Monday.

It doesn't matter if it's true (we all know it isn't). The fact is, the
national media is catching on to the fact that PNC Park's initial appeal is
fading, and the team isn't successful.

Yeah, like a snowflake in Georgia...

I don't think it'll carry much beyond a few days and the whole thing'll be
forgotten by anyone outside the 'Burgh. Besides, when's the last time fans
actually forced an owner to sell? It just don't see it happenin'. Maybe a
new GM would help, but again, that doesn't even seem like a possibility
right now. Until then, I guess the Bucs will nothing more than cheap sport's
fix until Steeler's training camp. Oh the days of Danny Murtaugh, Bob
Robertson, Al Oliver, Dave Guisti, Renny Stennet, Mike Easler, Steve Blass,
Kent Tekulve, Dave Parker, John Canldelaria, Omar Moreno, Bruce Kison, Bert
Blyleven, Willie Stargell, Don Robinson, Phil Garner, Richie Hebner, Richie
Zisk, Cool Hand Luke Walker, Manny Sanguillen, Doc Ellis, Vic Davillio, Bill
Madlock, Dave Cash and of course, the great Roberto... where have you gone?

After reading the names in the above posting almost brought tears to
my eyes. The comparison to the Pirates of today is at best anemic,
compared to the Pirates of the past eras. The sport of baseball as
becomer more of a business than a sport. IMHO, baseball at that tiome
was more of a sport than a business. I love baseball more than any
other sport, and the way that MLB is conducting itself now as compared
to then is nothing less than repulsive. (Hint to Nutting). I'm sure
the great Honus is rolling over in his grave for the 200th time by
now.
