The tigers should have kept Brent Clevelen instead of calling up Alexis
Gomez. Anyone who can hit homeruns like that deserves a longer look and
possibly a playoff roster spot.

does the name Purnal Goldy ring a bell? If not, google him. Clevlen was a
..220 hitter in AA ball, (that's AA, not AAA) so there is not yet any reason
to beleive he'd continue to hit like that once the scouts caught on to how
to pitch to him.
There's a reason Leyland gets paid millions and we don't.

I agree with this, what I don't understand is: aren't there any phones
in AA that the opposing coaches can call to find out what worked with
Clevlend.

One point that does make sense, in an interview B Inge had the
assessment that maybe Clevlen is the kind of guy that can focus better
if he is at an higher level. You know Leyland can see what you are doing
when you have the Old English D on your hat, but when you have
'Seawolves' maybe you think no one is watching.

I would like to see Clevlen back up sometime in Sept.

that's one of the differences between MLB and minor league ball. In the
minors (and the lower the level, the more true it is) pitchers will be
placing a higher priority on developing their style and learning to throw
certain piches than they will on getting every hitter out.

I'd bet on it, even if it is mostly as a uniformed spectator.

so are you saying that they were getting Clevlen out, but it was just
dumb luck? because they were more focusing on perfecting their pitches?

good question.
:-0

bottom line is, as we all know, minor league ball is very different.
