Have you heard the new trade rumor about A-rod to the Cubs for Alex
Gonzalez, Carlos Zambrano, Kyle Farnsworth, plus two minor league pitchers?
Now before you just dismiss this trade as well, think about this:
1. Trading A-rod frees up a lot of salary room. For the price that Texas
would be paying him, we could sign free agents Andy Pettitte, Bartolo Colon,
and Keith Foulke.
2. While Gonzalez is not anywhere close to the offensive threat that
A-rod is, he is a very able shortstop and will not be a weakness in the
great defensive infield that the Rangers have built.
3. If the Rangers did sign the 3 free agents above, that would total 3
proven starters to the rotation and two good arms in the bullpen (which was
only a couple arms short of the bullpen anyway).
4. Let's not forget the possibility of Clemens either. In order to even
make that a possibility, release the useless Chan Ho Park.
That would make a starting lineup/roster look something like this:
C Diaz
1b Teixera
2b Young
3b Blalock
ss Gonzalez
lf Mench
cf Nivar/Nix
rf Any number of good outfielders in the minors
Rotation:
1. Pettitte
2. Colon
3. Zambrano
4. Thompson
5. Clemens/Domingez
Bullpen:
Farnsworth R
Mayhay L
Ramirez L
Shouse L
Cordero R
Foulke R
