Murphy might have been an All-Star that year, but he didn't actually play
in the game. The AL pitching line was GOMEZ, Bridges (4), Harder (7).
I'd guess that the correct answer would be Mace Brown, who pitched three
innings to pick up the save for the NL in the 1938 Mid Season Classic.
Brown appeared in 51 games that year, 49 of them in relief, which
classifies him as a true reliever.
