For a little perspective on just how good the Twins are, in regard
to ROI (return on investment), take a quick look at the 2008
MLB team payrolls.

http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7978102/2008-MLB-team-payrolls#

The Twins consistently play well and compete, and at less than half of
the payrolls of the big market (or deep pocketed) teams.

That "underdog" status is just one of the reasons being a Twins fan is
so enjoyable season after season.

It also makes Tampa Bay's recent success an enjoyable story to watch
this season.

It is nice and one of the reasons I appreciate the Twins. MLB is the only
major sport that still has such ridiculous inequities in team spending and
as a fan I look at more than just the win/loss column to judge whether a
team is successful... I do appreciate what the Twins do more because they
do it with fewer resources.

On the other hand of the last 15 years or so worth of WS winners, only the
2003 Marlins a team with a below-average budget (though the 2002 Angels 15th
out of 30 teams).
