Do you remember when you could spend $5 and see a game at candlestick in
the lf bleachers? You could practically attend an entire homestand of
games for the same cost of seeing this piece of trash team play one snore-
inducing game at the overrated phone booth. I haven't been to a game in 2
years. The atmosphere at AT&T is so shitty that there really isn't any
incentive to go.

Geez, man, I'm known as 'Mr. Worse Case Scenario / Glass is half-empty' but
at least when I am negative I don't take the stance of an old geezer in an
old age home complaining about how things aren't as good as they used to be.
I just try to be an irritable middle-aged guy that's pissed off. <g> I guess
it sounds as if I'm telling you how to complain but at least try not to
sound like a stereotype as in: 'In my day, I remember when we could get
seats for $5 and watch real players like Jack Clark at the 'Stick...and gas
wasn't as expensive as it is now and <add further complaints about now vs
the good old days here>

There are lots of things I don't like about reality now compared to a long
time ago, but there are also lots of things I like better now.....I deal
with it.

if u think the atmosphere is bad at AT&T, go to a game in south florida, and
you will see how good you have it in SF.

I use to go to "The Stick" with my cousins. We would buy cheap seats.
About 3 innings later we would be 10-15 rows behind McCovey at first
base(section 13, my favorite). Must have done that 30-40 times before
someone said something and made us leave(still to better seats)
I miss those days of The Stick.

I o often enough when I fly into town for games that I feel qualified
in a couple of ways. I remember games from when the Giants first came
to town and games in today's modern stadium.

$5 bleacher seats mean nothing. It's a whole different world today and
has nothing to do with the hardships of Candlestick. The team is far
from a piece of trash and atmosphere down at the waterfront is fine
with me. Prices are high but I've never had a problem finding cheaper
seats in excellent parts of the park.

Architecturally, it looks fine and I like the layout. I know what it
looked like before the stadium was built, I played there along the
waterfront as a kid, so whatever is coloring your perspective, you
need a new set of glasses or a new team.

Odds are, the team will get along just fine without you. If things
workout well next year, I'm spending three weeks watching them next
year and I intend to spend most of the at the ballpark in San
Francisco.

LOL.

My parents had a 20-game plan at the Stick when I was growing up and we would
drive from Davis to watch them (back when it only took 75 minutes to get to the
Stick from Davis). I know you're supposed to be going to watch the game, but the
intangibles at the new park (weather, seating, view, etc.) IMO outweigh the
negatives (cell phones, lack of "die hard" fans, etc.).

The price is definitely an issue and I canceled my season tickets last year
after the 4th price hike in 8 years. But I don't know how prices are relative to
similar ballparks around the league (adjusting for the area's standard of
living, etc.). Price increases certainly haven't been limited to the Bay Area in
the last 10 years.

And the Giants had some pretty shitty teams when they played at the Stick, too.

If the Giants were still playing at Candlestick in 2008, just as many
people would be using cell phones. If you want a cell phone-free park,
don't let anyone in under 65.

I dunno -- there aren't as many folks on cell phones at the Colliseum. It's the
whole conducting-of-business on the cell phone that drives me crazy, and the
white-collar types who are more likely to afford the prices at the new ballpark
are the biggest culprits of this.

Of course it costs more than 5 bucks a game, Bush is president still.
Everything is more expensive, or haven't you noticed.

I live in Idaho, but still try to make a couple of trips to SF to see
the latest version of MY Giants, but I have a real job, and can afford
the entertainment value I still receive from this, as you say, "piece
of trash team". Been doing it since '69, started with Grampa's mini
day season plan, also with Dad on nights, still remember the night he
almost got Tito Fuentes to come into the stands (yes, they sucked back
then also, and he let them know it), then friends on weekends when I
got older.

>The atmosphere at AT&T is so shitty

You've never sat in the bleachers at the new park then, as all the
same roudy types are there.

Arivaderci, then, I'm sure they'll miss you're 5 bucks....

Sure, everything costs more, but that dosen't mean the Giants' profit
margin is bigger than it was in 1999. If they're going to charge you 5
times more, they should field a decent team.

Believe it or not, I wouldn't mind going to a few games every year. The
price decides over any qualms I have with the park that I don't go.

Honestly, the that's the problem with the yuppie (and to be fair) many
of the other "casual" fans. Not only do they talk loudly on their cell.
phones throughout the game, but they tend to stand up and go in and out
of their seats during the middle of the inning, blocking one's view of
the game and generally making a nuisance of themselves.

But the white collar "yuppies" are not the only ones guilty of this
boorish behavior. A lot of "blue collar" casual fans are just as guilty
in behaving poorly without consideration of their fellow fans.

And in my experience, Oakland A's fans tend to behave just as bad as the
Giants fans. (There are just fewer of them at the Coliseum so it's
easier to avoid the 'bad fans' there.)
