Maybe I'm a glutton for punishment, but I've been Googling this group's
past much of the evening. Found this nugget from '99 about Loria's
acquisition of the team. Read especially the second post ... gotta say I
felt the same way. Gosh, were we bamboozled.

My thoughts exactly. Where are all those know-it-alls who kept telling
us how they would be getting our team by next year?

This is truly a day for rejoicing!

Maybe I'm being naive and overly optimistic, but I have a really good
feeling about Mr. Loria and his ownership group. Everything I've been
able to read about this fellow oozes class act. Heck, this is a man who
refuses to allow his stepson to be referred to publicly as his stepson.
To Loria he's his son, period. As a stepfather myself, that's class.
Also, he's purported to know quite a bit about baseball, having played
it, possibly at the collegiate level, during his younger years. Finally,
the decision to name Stephen Bronfman, a member of the ownership group
who also put money into the deal, as co-chairman of the club is, in my
opinion, a very good move. Stephen has shown to have a good head on his
shoulders from a business sense, but is also not afraid to take risks.
That and the fact that through Stephen he retains a link to the club's
past owner (Charles) can only be a good thing.

Now, let's see some player signings and deals. I'm salivating already!

Don't feel bad. We here in WNY felt the same way about John Rigas. Let us hope
that some day Loria and Rigas (and perhaps Selig as well) will be wearing the
same orange jumpsuit at the same facility swapping stories.

Well, don't forget what happened to former LA Kings owner Bruce McNall
in a similar case. So there's hope for both Rigas and Loria. Smile
