EME reached base three times for the second consecutive night, raising
his OBP above .380. Rosarsio was one of two other Defenders with two
hits. Witter connected for his 10th HR to lead off the 5th inning
with the game's first run.
Bump had his second consecutive excellent start, improving his ERA to
4.15. He had an 11/4 GO/FO line. Pichardo and Matos pitched
scoreless relief, improving their respective ERAs to 2.27 and 1.02.
Pichardo allowed just his second walk in 9.1 IP in June--a big
improvement over his 15 BB in 26.1 IP in April and May. Both
relievers have a BAA below .180. Bard, the Red Sox' first round pick
two years ago, has shown remarkable improvement this year since moving
to the bullpen. Last year he had an ERA above 7.00, but this year his
ERA is below 2.00. Since being promoted to the upper minors in May,
he has 14 H, 7 BB and 22 K in 23.0 IP--stats roughly comparable to
those of Pichardo and Matos.
A+: San Jose had the final day of its four-day all-star break

Bond, who began the year by hitting over .400 in April but had cooled
off since in reduced playing time, had three of the GreenJackets' ten
hits, raising his AVG back to .333. He also had his 1st HR as a pro.
Baker and Villalona also reached base three times, although neither
hitter has an OBP above .315. Brock and Villalona had RBI singles in
the bottom of the 9th inning to tie the score and then end the game.
Odle's start included his first walk in nearly two months. His ERA
climbed to 4.34. Lussier, making his second appearance of the year,
pitched three scoreless innings, including stranding both inherited
runners. A perfect 9th inning helped improve De La Garza's W-L record
to 6-1.
ssA: Salem-Keizer lost to Tri-City 6-5

With seven hits, Curry and Loberg combined for more than half of the
Volcanoes' thirteen hits, as well as all three of their XBHs, raising
their respective AVGs to .286 and .351.
Loree, the Giants' 50th round pick a year ago, pitched very
effectively in his second start of the season, facing just three
batters over the minimum in five innings. Ronick, the Giants' 12th
round pick this year, has now allowed two unearned runs over his three
appearances.

Ziegler had another big game, including a HR for the second straight
day. The 20-year-old Navarro, who hit just .179 last year in the DSL,
is now 5 for 7 in two games this year in the U.S.
The 22-year-old Nova, who had a 3.38 ERA in seven starts in the DSL a
year ago, got the start for the rookie Giants, his first appearance in
a U.S. game. The Angels' 32-year-old Escobar made his first
appearance of the year.
