AAA: Fresno lost to Omaha 13-7
(with game tied 7-7 after three innings)
Fresno: 2B Travis Denker: 1 for 2, 2B, 2 BB, E
Fresno: C Dayton Buller: 2 for 4, 2B
Omaha: SS Angel Berroa: 3 for 5, HR
Fresno: RHP Victor Santos: 3.0 IP, 7 H, 7 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 3 K--1 HR
Fresno: LHP Erick Threets: 1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER--1 HR
Fresno: RHP Bartolome Fortunato: 0.1 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 5 ER--1 HR, 1 WP
Leading the Grizzlies' offense were two guys who made their PCL debut
the previous night. Buller was the lone Grizzly with multiple hits.
Denker reached base three times. The Royals' Berroa homered for the
second straight day.
Santos had an ineffective starting, raising his ERA to 4.70.
Fortunato, making his first appearance in nearly two weeks, got
pounded. Six of the seven earned runs he has allowed this season have
come in his past two appearances. Threets allowed a solo HR in his
second rehab appearance to take the loss.
AA: Connecticut defeated Binghamton 19-5
(adding ten insurance runs in the last two innings)
Connecticut: 2B Brad Boyer: 3 for 6, 2B
Connecticut: RF Ben Copeland: 4 for 6, HR, 2 2B
Connecticut: 1B Travis Ishikawa: 3 for 5, HR, 2B, BB, IBB, SO
Connecticut: 3B David Maroul: 3 for 5, HR, 2B
Connecticut: RHP Dave McKae: 5.0 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 4 K--2 HR
Connecticut: RHP Kelvin Pichardo: 3.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 K--1 HR
Copeland had his best game of the season with four hits, including his
first homer. With three each and their 2nd HRs of the year were
Ishikawa and Maroul. Also with three hits was Boyer, who was
appearing in his second game in the upper minors.
McKae improved his ERA to 4.45, while Pichardo's ERA rose slightly to
3.14. McKae got most of his outs on the ground with Pichardo getting
most of his outs in the air (9/1 vs 1/7 GO/FO lines). Both pitcher
have now allowed 2 HRs this year.
A+: San Jose lost to Inland Empire 4-1
San Jose: 1B Pablo Sandoval: 1 for 3, BB, SO
San Jose: RF Mike Mooney: 2 for 3, BB, SO
San Jose: LHP Jesse English: 4.2 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 2 K--1 WP
With two more singles, Mooney is now 8 for 15 this year (.533 AVG).
Sandoval was the only other Giant to reach base twice.
English had perhaps his least effective start of the year. It was at
least his shortest start since his first start of the year and only
the second time he has allowed more than a single earned run. His ERA
is now 3.16 with peripheral stats of 27 H, 9 BB and 30 K in 31.1 IP.
A-: Augusta defeated Rome 2-1
Augusta: LF Garret Baker: 0 for 4, 3 SO
Augusta: DH Angel Villalona: 1 for 2, 2B, BB, HBP, SO
Rome: LF Cody Johnson: 1 for 3, 2B, BB, SO
Augusta: RHP Orlando Yntema: 6.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K
Augusta: RHP Daryl Maday: 3.0 IP, 1 BB, 3 K--1 HB
Dropped to the seventh in the batting order, Villalona had one of the
GreenJackets' three hits and one for their five walks. Baker's oh-fer
with the hat trick dropped his AVG to .191. Johnson, the Braves'
first round pick a couple years ago, had one of the Braves' four hits
and their only walk.
Yntema had probably his best start of the year to improve his ERA to
4.32. Maday now has an ERA of 1.00 in the minors this year and a H/IP
ratio below 0.50. >> Stay informed about: minor lines, 5/3/08 |

This is a really bad hitting team. Ranked among the bottom in BA,
althoug h, surprisingly, many of the hitters have a lot of walks to go
with their .214 BA's.
But they really unloaded on the local nine this weekend. I was at the
Sunday game and they did it again. 9 runs in the first 2 innings and 14
overall. >> Stay informed about: minor lines, 5/3/08 |
