i wouldn't object to it, and i'm not sure this is a valid reason for not
signing bonds, however...
i wonder if the braves wouldn't sign him out of respect for hank aaron. i
mean, what with the so-called "tainted record" and all.

A number of Braves players and management no doubt remember the
unpleasantness of the media circus that followed John Rocker's famous
interview. I would think that's a nontrivial consideration, perhaps with
concern that such a spectacle could potentially have a negative effect on
some of the younger players

I hadn't considered it, but I bet that has been a thought. It means less now
that Bonds has actually broken the record already, but I bet it's all part
of the calculus of the thing for the Braves.
