Ross must be activated (or DFA'd, etc.) on Wednesday.

I heard a discussion during the game with Hatteburg's name mentioned --
along with Hopper - who it was thought had options available.

Dumping Hatteburg would mean another salary hit.

My thought are Hopper should go since I must assume Patterson is still
favored by Baker and Freel offers some playing position options.

It should be Valentin. Can't hit, can't run, can't field.

Valentin is pretty much all the power they have off they're regular bench. I
could see them letting him go, but not yet.

Freel, Hairston and Hopper are pretty much the same player. They're not
really good enough with the glove that you want to let them play in the
infield, but they don't really hit enough to merit playing time in the
outfield. You could try and jam Cory Patterson in the same slot, but he
plays a better centerfield than those three.
Any of them could go.

If they really are going to play Votto full time, Hatteberg is an odd bench
part. He'll get on base as a pinch hitter. We've not seen him behind the
plate, I wonder if he could still emergency catch. If he can...than
Hatteberg and Valentin represent almost the same thing as well. Hatteberg's
a bit better at getting on base. Valentin has a bit more thump. You don't
want either of them at the plate with a lefty throwing the ball.

I can't think of a good reason that Josh Fogg is on the roster. With the way
the AAA rotation is throwing, it's very hard to concieve of a way for Fogg
to get starts with this team. While we're thinking about starters, I suppose
it's possible they would send Belisle back.

While we're thinking about giving up on young pitchers, I hate to say Todd
Coffey's 15 minutes of fame is up, but sooner or later results matter. I
can't believe they would send him down while Weathers is down and not
replace him with a pitcher, but then they do weird things now and then.

That's 8 guys they could get rid of.

Damn I need a proofreader. That's just sorry.

And the winner is ....Norris Hopper to the DL with an elbow injury
retroactive to last Saturday.
