President/GM Dave Dombrowski said he's keeping his options open on the
infield as to whether to add a second baseman, shortstop or both. If he's
successful at adding both, as is believed he'll try, last year's Opening Day
double-play duo of Omar Infante and Ramon Santiago could face an uncertain
future. The Tigers reportedly will bid on A's shortstop Miguel Tejada but
have a stronger chance at shortstops Rich Aurilia, Royce Clayton and Rey
Sanchez. The second basemen on Detroit's wish list include Todd Walker, Mark
Grudzielanek and Pokey Reese.

What a mix. Tejada has no plate discipline. Now he's a fine player, but
overvalued for someone with his OBP --- only his sensational hitting in 2002
made up for it. Anyway, he's be fine b/c he's a good hitter and good
fielder, but the chances are slim that he's come to Detroit. Aurilia is a
decent hitter. But the other two SS choices are nothing short of total
insanity. Clayton is a really poor hitter, and so is Rey. Rey is a good
glove, and Clayton is a bit erratic but makes some plays.

For second, I see an argument for Walker or Grudzielanek. But Pokey Reese is
a terrible hitter.
