He sounded like they want to re-sign Adam Dunn. I don't get a lot of Reds
news down my way, but that's the first time I've heard such a comment.

That's very good news...and hinted at, I suppose, by the fact he wasn't
dealt yesterday.

I have come to think that the universally low perception of Adam
Dunn's value is going to benefit the Reds. You've got Ricciardi in
Toronto saying he'd never take him, no team made a serious play for
him at the deadline, and I read an anonymous comment from some GM
saying he wouldn't offer Dunn more than $5 million a year. We're
talking about a 28 year old with a .900+ career OPS, on pace for his
fifth consecutive season of averaging 40-odd homers and 100 RBI.

If other teams are as oblivious to his value as they seem, the Reds
can probably avoid a bidding war or overpaying to keep him. That
would be pretty sweet.

I thought I heard him say (partially heard) that he wants to plant
Dunn in LF, Hairston in CF, and Bruce in RF fulltime and see how
things work.

That's good too, then Keppinger (who has been slumping) will get
fulltime play at SS.

This team needs guys who can get on base in front of Dunn with greater
consistency.

Now if we can get past that 'letting someone sign him for draft picks'
stuff. Draft picks in baseball don't carry the weight of other sports,
especially the way the Reds use them.

I also heard Johnny Bench being interviewed about his new book. When asked
about the Reds, he ripped Krivsky a new one, saying he set the franchise
back.

I've had a theory for a bunch of years now that if Bonds ever left,
that AD had a real shot at taking over both the HR and walks title
from him. Looks like it's coming true.

And something I truly can't understand. I mean, there can't be 30
odd GMs that can't simply recognize his production can there? What
does that say about the quality of GM's in MLB?

I read in some "trade rumour" or other last week that of the 5 teams
that had speculated interest in Dunn, that he would instantly have the
highest OBP on each of the teams, except for 1 guy (can't remember
who).

I also read where AD has more HRs and walks than anyone in baseball
the last 5 years. In addition, he had more HRs and more RBIs than
anyone else in MLB this month, so he's hotter than anyone, and yet no
one can use him?

I can't come up with any explanation at all for how Carlos Lee is a
$100 Million dollar player and Dunn isn't worth a plugged nickel
unless other teams get all their info from listening to Marty and
reading the local rags trashing him.

Yeah, I think Keppinger is still struggling a bit from that injury.
