At the end of last night's Fox/FX/FSN/whatever coverage of the
Cardinals/Astros game, I heard Brennaman run through his litany of Fox
promotional junk, during which, he said, "Those of you watching on Fox
Sports Net, stay tuned for 'The Best Damn Sports Show, Period.'"

He's never used the word "Damn" in the title of that show before, to my
knowledge. When he'd mention what was coming up on FSN AZ during a
D-Backs game, he'd just call it "The Best Sports Show, Period," even
though the logo besmirching the screen at the same time clearly said
"Damn."

Did Fox hold a gun to his head?

Also, was that Brenly I heard in the booth with him? I didn't hear if
Brennaman identified him, and I only caught the last seconds of both games
last night (tuned into the ALCS just in time to see the final out and get
switched over to the NLCS just in time to see the final out).

Yes. The crew was Brenneman, Brenly, and Steve Lyons.

He has direct day-to-day control of DBacks broadcasting matters, but he's
just an employee with FOX/FSN. If he could have, I'm sure he -would- have
deferred the BDSSP promo to Lyons rather than utter the epithet himself; the
fact that he didn't, I think, speaks eloquently to the circumstances behind
the scenes.

Brenly is working with Thom throughout the NLCS. I'm hearing rumours that
he's also second in line for the DBacks broadcast job again, if a) the Steve
Stone fantasy doesn't pan out, b) Brenly's interested in working for the
organization again, and c) he doesn't make a serious push for the Phillies
managerial slot.
