Although I haven't watched a ballgame since the great sellouts of '94
& '95, my seven year old son wants me to take him to an Expos game
when we visit Montreal tomorrow (Tuesday the 22nd) thru Friday.

So, it will be VERY nostalgic for me, even though I swore never to
support the team again after '95. Having attended 500+ games up to
1979 when I moved to Toronto, it will be quite a trip down memory lane
at the Big Owe.

I have no idea who any of the starting 8 are, other than Vidro, so
this should be fun (I think). My hubby is staying behind in TO., so
it's poutine, "buy me some beer and CrackerJack" and sore tummies for
the two of us.

I'm glad to hear that you're setting your principles aside for the moment and
taking your son to the game. I was the same age when my Dad took me to my first
big-league game at Metropolitan Stadium in Minneapolis. I'm sure he'll enjoy it,
and at least he can say he attended one Expos game before they were forced out
of town by MLB. Be sure to get his photo taken with Youppi! Smile

Ah, the exuberance of youth, when a ball game is just a ball game. We
could all stand to see that now and then.

Cabrera's still a given at shortstop.

Well, we did it..... We saw a great game including a couple of stolen
bases and a runner thrown out at the plate that would have tied the
game up for the Phillies.

I bought my son 2 sets of Expos cards, a program and he enjoyed the $1
hot dogs. I'm still trying to figure out though, how 2 $5 tickets
ended up costing $22. I went online the night before the game to
montrealexpos.com and discovered that there would be a $4.50 per
ticket fee along with an additional $3 Internet ordering fee! What a
bunch of scammers. From what I understand, you still have to pay fees
if you buy tickets at the park. What a joke! Oh well. It's only money
- I just wish they'd advertise the tickets as $11.00 each instead of
the misrepresentative $5.00 each.

BTW, when are they going to stop putting tacky animated chickens on
the scoreboard every time opposing pitchers throw the ball over to 1st
base? Enough is enough......bush league stuff.

Although the game was a lot of fun, I still feel the same way about
the team's fortunes in Montreal. Despite cheap seats, $1.00 hotdogs
and the fact that it was a local holiday, there were still only 11.600
fans in the stands. A "save the Expos" group had a desk in the stadium
collecting signatures for a petition. What nonsense! There's only one
thing that would have saved the team in Montreal and that's bum cheeks
in the seats. Nothing else.

For all of the whiners who want to blame MLB, Loria, Brochu the Quebec
government and others for the demise of the team, there would be no
whining if the team drew 20,000+ per game like other teams do - the
team would not be moving. Anyways, I've already posted those comments
ad nauseum previously.....

So, to top off a good week and weekend, my son and I went to the
Expos-Jays game yesterday. 8-0 for the Expos after the 2nd inning!
Loved it. Hentgen sure gave the game away - 25 pitches in the first
inning and he had walked 5 by the middle of the 2nd.

Oh yes, with no special seat pricing (lots of sold $20, $30, & $40
seats) and $6.50 beers, there were over 25,000 tushies in the stadium.
As much as I don't like the DH and couldn't care less about the Blue
Jays, it's pretty clear which Canadian city deserves a team and which
does not.

By the way, what;s this nonsense about the next Expos-Jays series
taking place on Canada Day in Puerto Rico?????????? Who's the genius
who decided on THAT venue for this series?????????

Do the Jays draw bigger crowds in Montreal than other teams?

That's it for me. My ten year boycott was briefly interrupted....

Take care y'all.

Not true, you've been misled. The ticket windows charge no fees. I've
only bought in advance, through Admission's website, when I want a
REALLY good seat, such as the season finale.

I took my daughter to her first big league game last year at Turner Field.
Braves vs. Expos on July 4th. Not knowing exactly what day we were going to
Atlanta, we ended up buying tickets at the CNN Center. $30 each for mid-level
seats. Sad
(At least they were covered).

Ok. Thanks for the clarification. I thought I had read that
somewhere......

Here's another scam: I bought tix to the Expos-Jays game on Sunday and
had to pay $3.50 to print my own tickets at home!!!! Since when do we
have to pay money so that the issuer saves time, effort and printing
costs???? Fans need to tell these guys to shove it!

Ta-ta for this year....
