And yet we are still tied with the Indians! But, yeah it has been a
good first half with all the injuries to the bullpen and several
hitters having huge slumps. Lets hope Polanco's injury doesn't keep
him out of the lineup too long.
Great job by the bullpen in Saturday's game not giving up any runs to
the Red Sox. Too bad Bonderman didn't get the win because, except for
the 1st inning, he pitched 8 great innings, 7 shut out ones.
Nate needs a good outing. He's overdue.

Well Nate got the win but I wouldn't call it a great outing. He gave
the Red Sox their first run via walks, hit batsman and a sacrifice
fly. He made a throwing error which brought in another run. And he
gave up back to back homers in the 6th one to a guy who has been in
the minors for 11 years! If not for Granderson's awesome catch on the
Wily Mo Pena homerun shot and homers and solid hitting by Sheffield,
Thames and Carlos Guillen, the game would have been lost. But the
Tigers end the first half hot.
Indians lost on Sunday so the Tigers go into the break in first
place. But, they were in first place last season at this time and
Minnesota was 9 games out and the White Sox were in second. Twins win
the Central, Tigers the wild card, the Sox nothing. So things can
change in the 2nd half and with the Tigers being on the road for 17 of
their first 21 games after the break against teams like the Mariners,
Angels, Athletics, Twins and White Sox, lots could happen. Hang on,
it's going to be a roller coaster second half.

I agree --- but considering how Dice-K had been pitching --- going into
the game it seemed the only way for Nate to win was to pitch a
no-hitter. Fact is: any good team needs contributions from everyone,
including Craig Monroe. And on Sunday that happened --- Nate pitched
just good enough to win... Although anyone who gives up back to back
homers is generally not on track for a stellar day. Especially when one
of the homers is the first hit a minor leaguer gets in his pro career.

Tigs have a good road record, most people healthy --- and should be
confident
I would say the difference from last year is Gary Sheffield and
hopefully his presence --- his bat --- will stop any second have skid

I would add Miller and Robertson on the 'B' list
can you imagine
Miller, Bonderman, Rogers, Verlander, Robertson losing more than 5
straight... I can' believe in a week all five could lose....
.... I could see Bonderman, Rogers and Verlander all having a bad outing
in the same week, but not all five and not twice in 10 days
at least on paper

They can and will lose alot of games if the team keeps giving up 5
errors a game.

I like Guillen, he's great offensively, but he has to be close to the
worst defensive shortstop in the game. Everytime a ball is hit his way,
I get the same feeling as when Jones/Rodney take the mound. Pitcher
errors can bite ya too, as we learned last October. If they plan on
making it to October play, they need to tighten up the defense. They're
really lucky that boneheaded error Monroe made didn't cost them the
game. I don't have the stats, but I'd bet the farm that errors are way
up compared to this point last year. It's not just that one game. >> Stay informed about: what a great first half |

If Guillen ever losses his stroke, his value will plumet. Maybe he
commits these errors to show Leyland that he is not a good option
for 1st base? I heard that he does not wan't to play their. Errors
cost this team dearly last year in the Series and Leyland has to
be concerned.
