From the latest Gammons column..(yeah, it's only Gammons, I know, but it's
an interesting rumor)..

***
"Incidentally, several GMs have suggested that if Omar Minaya gets the Reds'
GM job, the logical candidate for the Expos' job is female L.A. assistant GM
Kim Ng."
***

My speculation, if this rumor comes to pass-
Expos are ripped apart fire sale style, and Kim Ng is brought in just as an
example to pro sports that MLB is so progressive, they're letting a woman
run a team..but there really won't be anything to run. Very, very, very
sad.

Everything I've read about Ng is positive, and indicates she has the
necessary skills. I don't want Omar to leave -- because I think if he
does go, Frank and Vladi are gone as well -- but Kim Ng would be just as
inspired a choice as Omar was.

If someone is skeptical of whether a woman can manage a sports program,
look at how Debbie Yow has transformed the University of Maryland
Basketball and Football programs since taking over. Do not look at how
Susan O'Malley has mismanaged the Washington Wizards, Capitals, and Mystics.

In this day and age, there's no reason why a woman CAN'T manage a sports
team.

However..the fact that it's the Expos who are quite possibly going to be
turned into a lame-duck team next year that quite possibly won't be allowed
to do anything..well, the whole thing just stinks to me.

I would really like to be proven wrong.

Agreed...I think women make as good or bad candidates as men do for GM jobs.
They face more of an obstacle, joining the 'boys club.'

That being said, I think Montreal is a great place for a GM to make a name
for him/herself. Look at Minaya, he was creative and knew what it would take
to put together a contending team.
