Somebody posting to the CWS board brought up the idea to ask people on this
board the following question:

Is Frank Thomas a future Hall Of Famer?

Nah. He had some good years with the Pirates, but not really enough to
warrant Hall of Fame induction. If he hadn't fizzled out in his mid-30s,
who knows what might have happened.

Besides, his eligibility ran out years ago.

I wasn't sure about answering this, since this is the Cubs newsgroup, but
seeing how it's Claude asking...

Yes, if he has another two seasons of production similar to this season
(.900 OPS), or if he has a few seasons of decent production that get him to
500 homers or 2000 RBI. Maybe the counting stats shouldn't matter, but they
do to many voters, and I'm answering this in terms of whether I think he
will get in, not whether he deserves to get in. Being a two-time MVP helps.
Right now, I would think he's barely above Jim Rice (but that's without
looking at Rice's stats recently). Thomas is 35, and many HOFers play well
past that age. He has a 0.995 career OPS, and more walks than strikeouts.
Impressive.

To be a little more relevant to Cub fans, I'd say that if Santo is a
deserving HOFer, then Thomas is too, (unless he really tails off for a
while), even given that he was a DH, because his hitting was that much
better than Santo over a long time period. I'm sure others would have
access to stats that would shed light on this comparison, though.

And here I was wondering if you had some sort of clinical evidence of my
insanity so I could start collecting disability insurance...

Here's hoping the thread simply dies out as it was my mistake to think
Claude had initiated it. Ack!

Bubba

And if anyone knows an idiot, it should be you. You see one everyday when you
look in the mirror. That's why I initially attacked you in the first place
because of how you react to people.

If you're just a stats freak, Thomas might be a Hall Of Famer. If you know
anything about baseball, he definitely isnt. Unfortunately, you don't know
anything about the game.

As for Santo, If Brooks Robinson is in the hall, Santo definitely should be.
He just didn't have the opportunity to showcase his abilities in the postseason
the way Robinson did.

It took awhile, but the soldiers are finally leaving the wooden horse.
