I'm a lifelong Red Sox fan, but the early 70s took me to Montreal and Jarry
Park.
So much so, that on our wedding night, we went to Jarry Park to see the
Expos play the Giants. My wife didn't forgive me for that one until we
learned that my friend's parents spent their honeymoon at Yankee Stadium.
I love Fenway, but Jarry Park was something special, to say the least,
especially along the basepaths.
And , Sox cult hero Bill Lee wound up in Montreal, which made many Boston
Red Sox followers Expos followers.
I raised the ire of a local scribe when I mentioned that unpopular Sox
manager (who despised Lee) Don Zimmer was fired -- and Bill Lee was in the
NL playoffs and could have been going to a World Series.
I'm going to miss the Expos. The franchise was really great, colourful,
and eventually passed on. Like the Boston Braves and Philadelphia
Athletics, etc. they will live on in history -- and people's minds with
affection.
