I was offered Buehrle and Mauer for Ivan Rodriguez. I was thinking of
countering with an offer of Ivan Rodriguez and Jarrod Washburn for Mauer and
Zito. Is either a fair deal? If I can already get Buehrle and Mauer for just
IRod, how much would Ihave to kick in to upgrade from Buehrle to Zito in the
trade? Washburn enough? The other team is not deep in pitching.

Good catchers are in short supply, and Pudge is not in a big-hitting lineup
anymore. Mauer has lots of potential but is unproven. Buehrle doesn't look
to be the same pitcher of 3-4 years ago. If you need pitching you might
consider the deal, but only if you've got another catcher in case Mauer
doesn't pan out. Personally I'd ask for a bit more.

I doubt the other party would agree to your Zito offer. He's a few steps
above Buehrle.

If I traded Irod my two catchers would be Mauer and Charles Johnson. I don't
need pitching. I already have Prior and Oswalt. I'm looking for that third good
guy.

Be careful with Maurer. The sheets love him, but he's an unproven commodity.

This is a huge drop from I-Rod. I had Zito last year and he went through some
really bad stretches. If you are going to trade I-Rod, I'd get something better
than that for him.

It seems you base a lot of what happened last year on your opinions of
players. Not to sound mean, but you don't succeed much in Fantasy Baseball,
do you? It's all about this year. Zito is the real deal.

Uh, I won three of the four leagues I was in last year. Fact is, if a guy has a
down year the year before, chances are he isn't going to rebound unless there
was a huge extenuating circumstance. The real deal on Zito is he began to slide
last year and had some horrible stretches that you can't blame on injury. He
isn't nearly as good as some of the sheets would have you think, especially in
light of how he was tagged last year.
