What do you think of the Padres now?

Now that we've had a few weeks of baseball, what are your thoughts of
the team? Anyone think they're worse that you thought? Better? Same?

Honestly, I haven't been able to catch as many games as I would've
liked (been a busy as hell couple of weeks at work), so I'd say my
opinions aren't valid. I'm curious to know what you guys think. Is
this team a legit NL West contender? Are they as mediocre as I've
seen, or are they just slow starters? I know they played pretty well
in Chicago, but they split series with below average Colorado (sure,
only two games in the series) on the road, and Pittsburgh at home.
Then they lose the series in L.A. decisively (possibly a sweep, but I'm
hoping they'll pull out a win tomorrow). Like I said, I haven't seen
all of the games, so I'm going on record and some stats. But things
don't seem to be looking too good right now.

What do you guys think? I know it's early, and anything can happen,
but what's your take?

Right now, they're not looking like legit contenders.

Peavy's been pitching the lights out, but the rest of the starters have been
maddeningly inconsistent.
The bullpen has been great, but you need a lead to get Trevor in there to
wrap things up.

The defense has been strangely shaky (since it was one of the strong points
last year) and they've been making a lot of bonehead mistakes. The hitting
has been spotty and the "big guns" have been misfiring regularly.

They need to pull their heads out, and quickly. Get things turned around
before the hole gets too deep.
