In 2003, the Sox won the season series over the Cubbies winning the
series at Wrigley and Comiskey. On Friday, June 27, 2003 Jose
Valentin hit a walk-off HR. That day and for the days afterward
Cubbie fans whined and cried about how the Sox celebrated too much.
Ron Santo led the Cubbies in the whining, saying it was unsportsman-
like for the Sox to have celebrated like they did. This revealed
(again) Santo's hypocrisy as he was the guy who loved to rub wins in
opponents faces, clicking his heals following wins in '69. Santo's
crying was so ironic, when he said, "The Sox are celebrating like they
won the World Series..." Well, Santo you're the guy who loved to
celebrate and you NEVER won a World Series!
WGN Radio has been replaying and replaying and replaying parts of the
radio broadcast from this past series at Wrigley. Clearly, this was
not just another series to the Cubbies, as they've repeated claimed in
the past. Santo and Cubbie fans are obsessed with beating the Sox.
"The Sox sure get up for the series against the Cubbies...too bad they
can't play with that passion against other teams..."
So, did the Cubbies carry momentum from the Sox series? Did they "get
up" for the series after the Sox series? No, clearly as they got
"whupped" by the Orioles.

Cubbie fans should be thanking the Sox. Why? Without the Sox World
Series Championship in '05 and following 90 win season and the gains
in attendance, TV and radio ratings the Cubbies would not have allowed
Hendry to spend an unprecedented amount on the Cubbies. Great job on
that '07 team there Jimbo, that team that won a whopping 85 games and
got swept away like garbage tossed on Wrigley's field.
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY CUBBIES!
