16 hits and no quit in the boys! Exciting games seem to be the
routine with these guys and it's so much fun. Even though Wilson blew
the game, you could expect that they had the game won with him in
there. There's a confidence the team didn't have last year.

Had a bad feeling on this game. Thought Feliz was gonna win the game
but he was on deck.
At least Bowker had 4 hits.

I didn't get to post about this before the game, but I was predicting that
Feliz will kill the Giants in this series, even though he was batting
..200/.255/.347 before the game. Some of you were probably thinking the same
thing. Smile

And we're still glad he's gone. Smile

All singles though. I was expecting some bombs from him in that ballpark.

Cain's start on Sunday should be interesting. He's traditionally the
designated batting-practice pitcher for the Phils. Yeah, they like to tee
off on him, home or away. And I still vaguely remember the massacre in
Philly.

For a team that has to scrap for every run. for a team that had 4 hits in an
inning including XBH's and only scored one run, in that inning, for a team
that had two men left on base in the top of the last inning, for a team that
had 2 outs, and 2 strikes on the last hitter, what a freakin way to lose the
darn game. By the way, the other Seton Hall Pitcher, Jason Grilli is now a
Colorado Rocky.

They lost, so get over it. They were exciting, I enjoyed the hell out
of the game and rate it superior to last year's product. They made
mistakes and they'll make more and of course they will pay for their
aggressiveness. The scrapped together 16 hits so there's plenty of
potential there.

Hmm... looks like they're moving up Cain and Lincecum's turns with the help
of an off day on Thursday. The good news is that Lincecum will escape
bowling night jinx, but the bad news is that Lincecum also didn't fare well
against the Phils. In fact, his major league debut was against them.

Like after they won 3-2 over the Philly's today? I said what I said
and I stand by it. Cain didn't win, but he didn't lose and Bengie is
proving to be a damn good cleanup hitter.

They got the hits they needed and they got the pitching they needed.
Matter of fact, Beachboy closed out the game. There's a bigger
difference here as well, Wayne. Outside of a Zito turn, I expect them
to win or be in the game and they haven't been going meekly back to
the dugout. Last night's game was a perfect example. last year's team
would have been back in the dugout or on the way home at the end of 9
innings. Gamers, baby!

Its winning those games like they lost on Fri night that make a big
difference.

That's true, but I'm gonna stand with JW on this, at least for now.
This team
is tough. They stay in every game. They make the opponent work hard to
beat them, almost every time. Philadelphia's a pretty good ballclub,
and we had, what, three one-run games in their park, two went to extra
innings.

The Giants have been blown out only 4 times in 32 games. I think most
of us expected worse, much worse.

Sure, I know they are going to lose about 90 games. They have gaping
holes at third and short and second. Their best hitters would be #7
guys on good teams.

But they pitch well, and doggone it, they are entertaining. I'm
actually looking forward to seeing them when they come to Washington
this year. (Of course, the Nats look to be one team the Giants can
actually beat in a series on the road.)

Easily could've been 3 extra inning games had Velez not lost the game in the
9th. What's more, the Giants easily could've won all 3. Remember one of
the extra inning games Rowand hit a HR in the top of the 10th, which more
often than not gets you a win. Then in Sunday's game the Phils scored 5
unearned runs, with Velez letting the winning run score. Given that 5
unearned runs don't happen very often, they would've won that game most of
the time. This team is really gutty; they stay in every game. It's really
fun to watch, and that's saying a lot considering their talent level. So
far, they've been a .500 team since the 2nd week of the season. The 1st
week was horrible, but they were better since.

I know, I know, the 1st week counts too, but you know what I mean.

No, it's beating teams they were not expected to beat that counts.
It's pitching better (for the most part) than they were expected to
pitch that counts. It's be as aggressive as expected and then some
that counts. They are doing things you never saw from last year's
team and that is what keeps the fans coming back for more.

It's winning that's important, but that will come with time and
experience. Even the minor league Giants seem to be doing better and
that means more players in the pipeline to the parent team. I love
it!
