Back in a huge hole, the Philadelphia Phillies don't have a month to
pull off another comeback.

And unless they start hitting soon, the next time they put on those red
pinstripe uniforms will be in Clearwater next spring.

The latest flop, a 10-5 loss Thursday to the Colorado Rockies, put them
behind 2-0 in the best-of-five series.

"It's really nothing new," Ryan Howard said...
==========
It's certainly nothing new for Philadelphia sports.

Sure it is.... NL East CHAMPIONS (so far). Not the biggest prize, but
the Mets and Braves didn't do it this year.

How worried should we be that Gillick is a lame duck now? I shudder to
think of the Gillick performance of the last off-season peppered with
lame-duckiness.

*IF* they get decent pitching. That is unless you think those ragged arms
can pull off another miracle.

Yeah, that is aktewally the one thing I left out. I think Gillick is smart
enough now to realize Eaton is a bust, Garcia is a bust, Lieber (even though
he wasn't starting) is a bust, so --- yeah - losing 3 out of 5 starting
pitchers calls for at least one arm, I reckon.

I think the biggest contract from the off season went to Barry Zito, who
pretty much everyone wanted, and while I cannot say I know how he played,
his ERA was one of the worst in the league!
