A player with 10 years in the major leagues and 5 with his current team.
It means the player can veto any trades his team wishes to make with him
(like Phil Nevin vetoed the trade that would have sent him to Cincinnati
for Ken Griffey, Jr.).

It all depends on the player, the manager, and the game situation. The
better the player, the less likely the manager is to try to control what
he does at bat and the more likely to give him the green light.

There aren't any hard & fast rules for signals; it depends on the
individual players. However, in general, 1 finger means fastball, 2
means curve, 3 and 4 would refer to other pitches, like change-ups,
sliders, etc.
