It's not just the AL, the NL had an off-day scheduled between games 4
and 5 also. They're moving back the start of the World Series this
year, because they were tired of opening on a weekend, and getting
lost in a sea of football, so they've sprinkled in a few more off days
here and there to push the start of the World Series back to a
Wednesday.
The extra off days now mean that the red-hot Rockies have to try to
stay that way while waiting nine days for their next game. When they
take the field for World Series Game One, they will have lost exactly
once in the previous 38 days. I'm going to go out on a limb and say
that that's never hapened before. >> Stay informed about: AL-Why the day off between games 4 and 5? |

It's to let them have only one game on a night. They'd really prefer
not to have two games on the same day, since it means scheduling at
least one of them at a time that's inconvenient for at least some
fans. Adding the extra off day lets them spread the schedule a bit
more and have one fewer day with two games scheduled.

If they're going to move it to a neutral site, they should go the the
logical conclusion: move it to Hawaii. That way, the players can play in
daylight, and the games can be shown at night on the mainland.

It also makes it more likely that a game will be snowed out, and that
at least one player will be hospitalized for frostbite. How long
before they move the series to a neutral site in southern California?

It happens every year.
Day 1: The loser of the World Series is eliminated.
Days 2-38: They don't lose any more games.

They'll be rusty or well-rested, depending on how they perform.
