It is to the point now that the Royals are hurting everyone in the KC
area by damaging the city's reputation nationally. Tell anyone that
you are from KC, and if they are a baseball fan at all they ask you
"What is wrong with the Royals?", and as an unasked subtext " What is
wrong with your city?" " Why can't KC produce an owner to buy out the
absolute clown that owns the team now?" KC is being viewed as a city of
losers. A small market backwater that cannot produce even a normally
bad team, but a small market backwater that can't even field a team
that belongs in the major leagues.
As Johnny Damon said about the Royals in an interview with Joe
Posnanski of the Star " It's sad...they kind of want to just sit there
and collect revenue sharing." That is the reputation of the Royals
around baseball these days, a franchise that wants to take advantage of
the revenue sharing program while the owner lines his pockets.
I say it is time for MLB to step in and force the current owner to
sell. It is against the best interests of the game to have one team so
far out of balance from the rest of the league. They took action when
Marge Schott was embarassing the game, why can't they do so now when
another clueless buffoon is doing so again?
If you are a KC resident, this team is hurting you personally by
damaging the city's reputation nationwide. KC could be losing
convention dollars as we speak, as people around the country
think....man there must be something WRONG with that town, the way they
tolerate something as important as thier MLB team to be run into the
ground like it has been. Why doesn't the leadership of the area get
together and buy out the inept owner, just for the sake of the town's
reputation?
Please, someone, step up and get this team into someone's hands that
has a clue about what they are doing!
