Amazing. Billy Beane must have some type of radar to be able to
continue picking out great pitchers in the minor leagues. This Smith
kid is special. And Gaudin threw a great game the other day. Could
you imagine if Oakland could spend more money how great they would be?
They'd be the Yankees/Red Sox of the West. And signing the Big Hurt
was superb. It might be a great season after all. Our family's auto
business is run the same way. Tops!

The book _Moneyball_ said he:

1. Recruits college players (generally, smaller colleges, given his
payroll limitations). High school players tend to be less
predictable.

2. Recruits on the pitcher's stats, not on how a scout says they
look. Particularly, Ks and walks.

But, you would think this would stop working now that the word has
been out there, plus some of his former assistants are now at other
teams. That makes the question: Why has his competition failed to
figure out?
