I remember Pat Piper announcing for the Cubs in the 1960's, and I'm
pretty sure he'd been there a while before I ever noticed him. But I
was surprised earlier today to see a poster of the 1929 Cubs, which
included a "Piper" as the team's announcer.

Did Pat Piper take over from his father? How long did the family
announce for the Cubs? How many pipes have the Pipers piped?

I recall reading somewhere that Pat Piper was the Cubs PA announcer for
over 50 years.

He used a megaphone prior to having a PA system installed in Wrigley Field.

And no....before anyone asks...I wasn't there!

"Attention...Attention please....Have your scorecards and pencils ready
for today's line-up...."

tks

I found a couple of internet blogs that said Pat Piper announced from
1916-1974. I never ate at the Ivanhoe but relatives talk about him as the
greeter.

I believe you are correct. Also I think he actually said "pencils and
scorecards" instead of "scorecards and pencils".

Not important, but the spelling was "Peiper". I don't know if he was ever a
greeter, but he was a waiter there. I remember one of the tv announcers
saying that back in the '50's.
