This should be an easy win for Detroit today.

Oh wait, I forgot about Drew, that makes 4.

If you don't like my postings, then stop reading them. No one is

just another fan putting blinders on over this team. there's just no way the
RS are good enough to do anything in the post-season even if they do hang on
to the division - which i'm still not convinced they will. getting swept
twice in the last month by playoff calibre teams has to be an
eye-opener.also, after today, only a 10 game lead over the Stanks who btw
are beating up on a team that used have their number. everything is going
wrong for the RS and right for the Stanks right now. where have we heard
that before?

It wasn't that easy. What are you going to do? Youk is hurt and Manny
was sick.

Alipperman slipped this out:

I'm seeing clearly enogh through those blinders you think I wear to know
the idiocy behind a statement like "getting swept twice in the last
month by playoff calibre teams has to be an eye-opener." You'd prefer
they get swept by bad teams?

"Flu-like symptoms" is usually a euphemism for "hung over".

Really? I guess then a few Sox have been "hung over" this season. As
well as a number of athletes.

I think you must hold Francona accountable for not starting Youkilis in any
of the 3 games. He had a medical clearance unless I misunderstood what I
read. It seems that I didn't because he PH in game 2 and was waiting to PH
in game 3. Two straight one run losses. Don't you think they would have had
a better chance of winning one of those with Youk in the lineup? But no,
"Doctor" Francona in his infinite lack of wisdom prescribed 3 days rest
regardless of the damage to the team. The Yankees overall have been 100%
mediocre. But the sub 500 play of the Red Sox for over a month has to give
them hope as well as their current hot streak. Meanwhile of the 8 teams who
currently would qualify for postseason play, I would at this time rate the
Red Sox ahead of only Milwaukee. Continued improvement by Lugo, a strong
post all star performance by Drew, some tweaking of the roster, more power
from Manny and Ortiz and continued strong pitching could change that.

And Youk was clerly in pain when he did PH the other day. Remy suggested
that Youk probably had orders not to run full speed if he hit a ground
ball. With the three days from the break and these three days off
hopefully he will not have to be DLed and thus lost for a longer period
of time.

According to the Sox announcers, Youk wasn't playing per the medical
staff. If left to his own devices, they said that he would have played
but was overruled by the staff. In today's Boston Herald:

"I feel fortunate that Paul Lessard (trainer) stepped in and said that
this was something that could only get worse if I played and r est was
the only thing that was going to help it out."

As you can see, it was "Dr. Francona" as you put it that made the
decision. Of course, you do have this habit of making comments without
sufficent knowledge.

The last thing this team needs is to not have Youk available for an
extended amount of time, or be hurting all the second half of the year
as he was last season which affected his play.

As you saw, he was able to pinch hit in a situation where he didn't
have to run hard. and he would not have played in the field.
