Post subject: auction results... contracts?
Archived from groups: rec>sport>baseball>fantasy (more info?)

I just finished my fantasy auction. wondering how I did (8 team league) all
bids started at $0.25 and increased by 0.25 cents for each bid, total cap is
50 dollars. Keep in mind for pitchers we must start 4 SP's and 1 RP and one
position is a "flex" that can be either an RP or an SP. My total cost is
$48.75 any changes I should make to this? sugestions on people I should
bench / start from what I have? also this is a keeper league. we must sign
all players to a contract for 1 to 5 years. their sallary remains the same
for their duration of the contract. if you drop a contracted player you pay
half their cap cost. who should I contract and for how long? last thin, we
also have 4 "minor league" slots which is treated sort of like a "sub"
roster. anyone can go on the minor league roster but it costs to move to and
from that roster. anyone I should consider picking up now while they are
cheap and signing them longer term? all free agents have a sallary of $0.25
thanks in advance.

my roster is as follows:

C: J. Varitek $3.25
1B P. Konerko $0.75
2B B. Roberts $2.75
3B A. Ramirez $3.75
SS M. Young $5.00
LF R. Winn $0.25
CF J. Damon $4.25
RF B. Giles $1.25
DH B. Bonds $2.00

SP C. Carpenter $4.00
SP B. Colon $2.25
SP F. Garcia $1.25
SP R. Oswalt $1.00
SP J. Smoltz $1.00
RP B. Lidge $1.75

Bench
C. Delgado $2.75
B. Mueller $0.25
D. Eckstein $0.25
M. Alou $0.25
BJ. Upton $0.50
SP R. Clemens $2.00
RP/SP J.Sosa $0.25
RP B. Wagner $1.25

Two comments (and I don't intend to be mean).

1. 8 teams in a mixed league? Is every other team as all-star filled
as yours?

2. I know he's Roger Clemens, but why pay money for a guy who could
retire before the season starts?

I don't see that as being mean, they are both good questions

1. typically our leagues are 10-12 teams, but we had 1 person drop out half
way through last year (and not pay entry or transaction fees) and one moved
away, so there wasn't much we could do, couldn't find anyone else who wanted
in.

2.As for roger, yeah it's a gamble, I was aware of that when I did it. if it
pays off, I'll look like a genius getting clemens for 2 dollars instead of
the 6-7 bucks he probably would of gone for if he was signed on a team... if
he retires.. then I'll look foolish. the cap is a set cap, so if he does
retire, I'll be able to drop him and regain half of what his sallary is (one
dollar) most teams are capped out except me and 1 other so I still did all
right with the auction as far as budget is concerned.

we shall see what happens.

now any suggestions as who to sign long term? and for how long (can be up to
5 years)

thanks

Looks good...Roberts will be out for the first weeks of the season.

I'd start Alou over Winn and Wagner over Lidge.

Konerko, Bonds, Garcia, Eckstein, Clemens and Mueller for 1 year; Varitek
and Damon for 2 years; the rest for 3.

Without knowing whose available, it is hard to say...SP Scott Kazmir, 1B
Prince Fielder, and 3B Edwin Encarnacion are good replacements for Clemens,
Konerko, and Mueller, respectively.

thanks for the info D, a few questions about proposed contracts.

> Konerko, Bonds, Garcia, Eckstein, Clemens and Mueller for 1 year; Varitek

bonds and clemens it's obvious that 1 year is teh way to go (although... it
doesn't matter, because even if I sign them for 5, the ONLY way out of a
contract is if they retire, so I might just sign them for 2 anyway) with
konerko at 0.75 cents, you don't think it might be better to lock him up for
that cheap for a few years? I'd still like to have SOME cap next year to go
after some bigger guys (say vlad, pujols, ortiz etc.)

all 3 of thsoe guys are gone... as is Delmin Young who I wanted. I did pick
up kevin youklis and put him in my minor league (hes at the ripe age of 27
after all) and someone I'm going to sign for probably 2 or 3 years... since
it costs basically nothing to keep him.

thanks for the info!

No...I don't like Konerko...I've had him 1-2x and he's extremely
inconsistent...now that he's getting up there in age, he could easily get
hurt or drop off...two years is okay...maybe 3 if you can drop him with low
repercussions.
