Now you must admit alot of those quotes you used were way out of context.
For example when he said he wasnt in good shape it was after the interviewer
made he comment that he looked like he was in good shape and he followed it
up by saying that he was doing ok and working on it. As for the questions
about the timetable for his return it also sounded like he was eager but
didnt know and gave an honest answer that its not up to him if he is ready
he will get there if not he wont. Part of zack's problem last year, at
least what I have heard from previous interviews is that he felt that as a
pitcher he was basically only half a player, he liked hitting in college and
was pretty darn good at it....he misses it nothing wrong with that. The
interviewer also asked about his golf game and he stated that he has stopped
playing to focus more on baseball. Sounds to me like he is doing all he can
to get his head straight and give it another try. I hope he succeeds.
Zack has always sounded somewhere between aloof and stoned in interviews,
not dumb just really laid back. There is a decent interview here from last
week that gives a bit more insight into what might have been going on. It
sounds like alot of the problem last year was focus and dealing with the
attention.

From the read it looks like alot of the problem was simple immaturiuty and
shyness. Folks forget that he is only 22 years old...to be thrust in the
spotlight and hailed as the next coming of Nolan Ryan was a hell of alot of
pressure. I would imagine most of us would melt into a puddle of goo under
the same circumstances. Im going to give him benefit of the doubt and hope
that he makes it back better than ever.
