Post subject: Yanks get even stronger as MLB postseason nears

Here is a piece of bad news to the rest of the teams in Major League Baseball who wants to detrone the defending champion New York Yankees this year. As the MLB playoff nears, the Yankees is getting stronger as it prepares to defend their crown and gets the chance to repeat as champion in the ongoing season of the premier professional baseball league in the planet. The Yankees management recently acquired veteran pitcher Kerry Wood from the Cleveland Indians to boost their bullpen as the MLB postseason nears. Wood is expected to play as back-up pitcher for the Yankees alongside Joba Chamberlain for closer Mariano Rivera.

The 33-year-old hard-throwing right pitcher is very happy with the opportunity to play for the Yankees since it is a great chance for him to play in the MLB playoffs and grab a championship. Yankees manager Joe Girardi explained he and the management decided to get Wood since they knew he has the skills to help them successfully defend their MLB crown. Girardi said Wood is a clutch performer that could spell success for the Yankees as the MLB season gets more exciting. As part of the deal to get the services of Woods the Yankees will pay $1.5 million of the $3,672,131 remaining on Wood's $10.5 million salary this year.

His contract includes an $11 million team option for 2011. Aside from Woods, the Yankees earlier also acquired Austin Kearns from the Indians for a player to be named. The veteran MLB pitcher was recently activated from the disabled list by the Indians as he had been sidelined by a blister on his right index finger. It was his second time on the DL this year. He didn't pitch until May 8 because of a strained muscle in his upper back. In 23 relief appearances for Cleveland Wood has a 1-4 with an a 6.30 ERA and eight saves record. Fans of Yankees should grab cheap New York Yankees tickets to watch the MLB games live!
