Isn't it time to get rid of Edmonds? - He's currently batting .153, and his defense isn't exactly Golden Glove. Couldn't we just call up a AAA and get better than this?

XTRA Sports Chris Ello is predicting Jim Edmonds release in a matter
of weeks, if no improvement at the plate or in the field is shown.
Fine. I get it. But that leaves us Scott Hairston who is batting all
of .213 so far. I think we have just swallowed hard and kept Mike
Cameron. Who else is going to help us out there?

Correction: I think we *should* have just swallowed hard and kept Mike
Cameron. Who else is going to help us out there?

I'm not sure if he'd be ready in time (last time I looked he was on the DL
at Portland), but Will Venable might be a candidate to come up. If he's not
available, we'd probably be seeing Jody Gerut again.
Both have been hitting well in AAA.

A trade is always possible, but we'd probably have to give up a ML starting
pitcher to get anyone significantly better than either of the minor league
options.

I can think of a couple things worse than having a center fielder
who's hitting .213 - having a center fielder who's hitting .153, and
having a left fielder who's hitting .213.

But you're right, Hairston isn't an ideal solution out there. I don't
think there's any immediate help in the system. Some outside names
I've heard thrown around include Kenny Lofton, Tony Gwynn Jr., and
Coco Crisp. The advantage Lofton would have over the other two is
that they wouldn't have to give any thing up in trade for him. He'd
be a short-term solution at best, but might be able to hold the
position down until somebody like Venable is ready.
