You know it's bad when Leyland is calling the pen before the
top half of the first inning is over. LOL
Bonderman was, well, Bonderman today. Lots of walks (including
walking in a run), lots of bad pitches, lots of ugly grimaces on his
face as he screws up.
Once again, the pitching creates a deficit the offense can't compensate
for. This same old story is getting old and boring...and I'm not even a
Tigers fan.

The key phrase being "supposed to be better". But they just aren't any
better most games. They look old and tired most of the time, IMO.
But I think just about everyone in the sports world, except you, realizes
that when the pitching is as bad as the Tigers, little is going to help them
much...not even the offense getting a few more runs per game. Today
they would have needed FOUR more on top of the two they had. This
offense just isn't good enough to score 6+ runs EVERY game...and the
pitching will usually give up more than that anyway.
You won't get an argument from me that the offense needs to score
more runs....but you CAN'T deny that the pitching is horrible, and is
losing many games for them this season.

While I agree the offense should have been able to get more than 2
runs off the rookie, watching Bonderman pitch is like have a root
canal with no anesthesia.
Tigers have scored 180 runs and given up 209 so far this season. No
wonder they have a 16-22 record.
As for Bonderman, remember his MLB debut in 2003? He went 6 and 19
that season. Since that season he's never won more than 14 games and
he lost 13 two seasons in a row (2004, 5). I know he's still young
(25) but it certainly doesn't look like this guy will ever be an "A"
list pitcher. And as long as Hernandez is his pitching coach, I don't
think he has a chance in hell of getting better.
Let's look at Bonderman's WHIP since he's been up in MLB. A good WHIP
for a pitcher is around 1.00. Anything below 1.00 is outstanding and
demonstrates the domination of a pitcher. A poor WHIP is anything over
1.75. Beginning with the 2003 season, Bonderman's WHIP is 1.549,
1.310, 1.354, 1.299, 1.382 and this season it is 1.667.

All of the Tigers starters have been a bit like that. Among the
entire rotation there is only maybe 2 or 3 "quality" starts
this season. Ouch.
Especially with the Tigers terrible bullpen.

Finally, a realist about Bonderman in the Tigers group. Congratulations.
Yes, he's only 25, but there isn't any indication he will ever
get much better than mediocre-to-poor as a starter.

That's a pretty unimpressive WHIP history, IMO.
Bonderman also has a tendency to break down the longer the
season goes on, so I wonder how he'll do in that regard this season.

....but that's perfectly reasonable for a #3 or 4 starter. Really it is.
Especially since he would generally be going up against another teams 3rd or
4th starter, and this offense should produce more against them. I'm more
concerned about Verlander. AND, in 19 of their 22 losses, the Tigers have
scored four or less. They've been shut out five times. Winning 1/3 of those
losses turns that record around (lending some credence to the Sparky
Anderson theory).
I know he's still young
