I'd have to agree that after being spotted a 6 run lead to start the
game and winding up losing it is very demoralizing.

No, but it kept the game alive for the Twins. Miner couldn't get
anyone out, even after lucking out on Harris' ground rule double that
only scored one run instead of two. The Tigers were still leading at
that point. But Mauer's squeaker over second base put the Tigers away. >> Stay informed about: Worst loss of the year.... |

Did it really? What I saw was something I've seen way too much of, not just
this season, but also in the previous two. They score early (today, six runs
before they had made two outs) and then do not score again the rest of the
game. This offense should be better than that. >> Stay informed about: Worst loss of the year.... |

I agree that the offense was horrible after the 1st inning. They were so
patient in the first inning, really good at bats, then it was like they were
just going through the motions. Would love to see a stat on how many of the
batters in innings 2-9 swung at the 1st pitch...because it was the majority
of them.
But, regardless of that...they win if Guillen makes that play. >> Stay informed about: Worst loss of the year.... |

I don't think there's a team in baseball that'll go the whole season without
being swept in a series. It's funny how you come back in and berate the
Tigers when the Twins sweep them, yet the Tigers swept the Twins earlier in
the season when they were doing worse than they are right now.

Probably not....but how many teams start their season by getting swept
twice in a row?

Sweeping in a TWO game series isn't that difficult....even for the
hapless Tigers. And the Twins scored plenty of runs in that little
series, too. The Tigers just managed the rare feat of scoring more
than their pitching gave up. Too bad they can't do that on a more
consistent basis.
In any case, the three game sweep by the Twins was a nice payback.

you've got to be a realist though. This team was shutout FOUR times in their
first 12 games. How many have they lost by one run? This offense SHOULD be
producing 6+ per game.

But the reality is that they most likely WON'T produce 6+ runs per game.

of course, anyone with an elementary understanding of The Game understands
balance. The LA Angels of A have the 10th best team ERA in the league
(second worst in their division), yet lead their division, and are tied with
the R Sox for most wins in the league. The Toronto Blue Jays, with the
second best ERA in the league are dead last in their division, a mere two
games better than the Tigers in wins and losses. >> Stay informed about: Worst loss of the year.... |

Of course, balance is a key. The horrible pitching is just the Tigers
glaring problem...they also have problems with hot-and-cold offense
and way too many fielding blunders (which is where the age of the
roster really shows).
Any way you want to slice and dice it, the Tigers just don't look like a
very good ball club this season.

I see you never will get it. It just ain;t that simple, sonny. Seriously
look at the numbers. In the AL West, the A's have a league leading ERA, and
have scored as many runs as the Angels, who have the TENTH best ERA in the
league, BUT, who'd in first place???
(I'll give you a clue: It's the team with Torii Hunter in centerfirld)

Of course the Tigers problems go beyond just the pitching. It takes
an all-around team effort to be as bad as the Tigers are this season.
The pitching is just the part that's so fun to watch, because it's
such an OBVIOUS weakness. The Tigers pitchers can implode
at any given moment, from the starters on down to the closer...and
everywhere in-between.
