I'm planning a trip with a few mates to coincide with a few World Series
games this year (hopefully Yankees & Giants). Does anyone know when the
tickets go on sale, whether I've any chance of getting any and a rough idea
of cost.

Ticketmasker must sell them - they sell tickets to everything else,
and I've always found them very reliable.

The chances of getting World Series tickets at regular prices are
extremely slim if you are not a season ticket holder. As a Yankee
partial season ticket subscriber I can tell you that aquiring Yankee
World Series tickets at listed prices is almost impossible if you are
not a season ticket holder. All full season subscribers as well as some
of partial subscribers (my plan is included) get their regular seats
(full season subscribers also have an option on more seats as well).
Then tickets are given to all the Major League clubs, corporate
sponsors. After all these ticket obigations are filled a limited number
of tickets (perhaps 10,000 per game for a stadium of 55,000 are put on
to the general public. I hope this helps.
