Someone posted in here about the time that the giants signed Rowand that he
was actually fairly similar to Winn. If they thought Winn was a nice
accessory but not core to a winning team, the hard nosed Rowand was still on
the upswing. Their numbers although not exact are fairly close. Rowand
with a few more homers, but Winn with 2 more doubles and a triple. Rowand
batting just 4 points higher but has a better ops 837 to 807. Rowand K's a
lot more. Winn walks more. Winn scored more runs perhaps as a result of
his position in the lineup, as Rowand has more RBI, perhaps as a result of
his position in the lineup and he would have a few more if molina wasn't
slower than a turtle with a manatee on its back. If we thought Winn was
overpayed, Rowand makes around double. A lot to pay so far for 30 points of
OPS. They both make decent parts of a team, but a team that perhaps has a
young superstar carrying an OPS above 1000. Winn is a few years older and
perhaps has less time with the gmen. A future outfield could have included
schierholtz. Lewis and Bowker, but with Rowand there for some years one of
those guys will have to be a backup or play first base. >> Stay informed about: Winn vs. Rowand |

You failed to consider one little detail: You're comparing a CF to a RF.
*Big* difference.
And of course, Rowand has just hit a *huge* slump. Let's see if that will
continue.
Rowand's split:
April: .326/.366/.500
May: .343/.431/.556
June: .219/.260/.329 (No wonder the Giants are stinking)

That would not be the Giants.

You forgot one little detail: Neither Schierholtz, Lewis, nor Bowker can
play CF, so Rowand's signing doesn't really affect those 3. >> Stay informed about: Winn vs. Rowand |

If they can't find room for our very young left fielder, he showed
he's got the wheels to play centerfield. Horwitz could definitely
handle the position. >> Stay informed about: Winn vs. Rowand |

Horwitz and ortmeier could have rounded up to 5. I know Rowand has a gold
glove but I don't think he is any better or maybe marginally better than
Winn in the Field including Center. With Lewis's improvement this year he
could also develop in center. The really good pitchers that have good
sliders continually make rowand look bad. >> Stay informed about: Winn vs. Rowand |

Yeah, Marvin Benard played centerfield too. >> Stay informed about: Winn vs. Rowand |
