Welp, the Cubbies won yesterday, not that we could tell from
anything written in the newsgroup yesterday. Anybody know why
Theriot is not getting much playing time lately? Also, did
Carlos really need to throw 125 pitches yesterday?

I believe it was after the game that Carlos took reporters to
task for speculating that he may have arm problems. Shame on
people for trying to connect the dots between a pitcher having
decreased velocity and using a different arm slot. Of course the
rumors might drive down his free agent value in the next off
season. But the way to end that would be to get back to the
mid-90's with his fastball and start showing some decent control.
Does he really think that a starter with a 5+ ERA is going to
get $17million per year contract offer?

Theriot went into & slump & is benched becuase I just traded for him
for my fantasy team.
Anyone I trade for goes into a slump or gets hurt!!!

......ASBBCC is slowly drying up. There are few "regulars" posting here
anymore....I would guess that many have drifted over to the "bloggers"
(Ugh!) To each his own but I am not a fan of blog sites dedicated to Cub
baseball.

......I have found two or three Cub message boards that (along with this
group) provide me with all the Cub "talk" that I need.

Anybody know why Theriot is not
> getting much playing time lately?

......As mentioned, Theriot hasn't been too productive lately and Izturis
has found enough offense to keep him in the line-up.

Also, did Carlos really need to throw
> 125 pitches yesterday?

......Based on what has been coming out of the bullpen lately, yes I
would say Piniella had little choice but to ride Zambrano as far and as
along as he could....I know Baseball Prospectus uses 120 pitches as "the
limit" and pitching coaches and managers will go to hell if they allow
that limit to be exceeded.

......However, I see no reason that 120+ pitches can't be allowed in
certain instances and it sure helped preserve a Cub victory yesterday.

>

......Yep, willing to bet if Z becomes a FA, he will get all of that even
with a 5+ ERA (as long as he is not injured, of course).

Boards tend to dry up when the team is not doing well. Since 2k3, the Cubs
have done horribly. Nothing to discuss...

No.....You don't have enough history with this group. This group has been
very active ever since I joined it during the Riggelman years. Only a
couple of good years, but lots of people posted. I imagine it's the
blogs---especially Al Yellon's blog since he and a number of his regulars
were very active posters here before Al started the blog.

But amazingly, I do. It certainly wasn't planned this way, but Google
lists me as being in 8th place all time in posts to this group, and
that doesn't count the 1007 posts I made here under a different email
address.

I agree. Look at the number of posts to this group:
http://groups.google.com/group/alt.sports.baseball.chicago-cubs/about?hl=en

The current downhill trend began in September 2005, and it's been very
slow ever since.

Very interesting to see the list of "all time posters".....

Seems like old times <song fades into background>

Number 1 poster of all time....Al Yellon (now with his own blog and
former DBFC member).

Number 2...David Geiser (who now posts here very infrequently and is
part of Yellon's "group".

Number 3...Michael Sachs (who posted here for a long time and a member
of DBFC, created by FMR...where he is today???)

Number 4...FMR (ah, memories...creator of the Dave Bialas Fan Club and a
person I haven't spoken to in quite sometime...Was not in real good
health the last time we spoke.)

Number 5... Craig (can't recall last name..I would guess he may have
moved over to the Yellon blog...Big on stats and BP...He didn't consider
me a close personal friend <g>)

Number 6... Ah, err (Me with old e-mail address)

Number 7...Kyle (also can't recall last name...Current whereabouts
unknown but an avid poster while here.)

Number 8...Lance Freezeland (But you already know that...Our primary
Cardinal friend...<at least a majority of the time>)

Number 9...Al Yellon AGAIN (With different email addy...Yikes! Probably
number one Cub fan and maybe number one baseball fan...Eats, sleeps,
drinks baseball)

Number 10...BubbaMike (Who is still very active in ASBBCC...and tells it
the way it is...according to Bubba <g>)

So, out of the top 10, only three of us are still fairly active...Others
may lurk and say little or moved on to other boards/ issues).

Very interesting.

Of course, it could be a combination of factors. Web-based discussion
groups have overtaken Usenet as a venue for conversations on many
topics, not just the Cubs. Also, the loss of a one or several big
posters can turn a fertile newsgroup into a desert overnight. Finally,
i'd add that last year's team was as exciting as cold oatmeal. There
are probably a few people who might come back if the team is more
interesting.

I recall Mike being a very active member in the late 90s and early 00s.
As I recall, he was in college at the time. As you say Bubba, to still
rank number three and not have posted since 2001, shows how frequently
he attended this group.

Lost track of Kyle at the same time as you....Heck, he probably has
three kids by now.

Somewhat surprised that DmL (Dan Lichensten) didn't make the top ten but
then he was a summer camp instructor which kept him from posting for a
couple months each summer....He still sticks his head in here occasionally.

Other names that posted frequently, James (I could have if I wanted to)
Weisberg and Ray Heitmann who I know is still around since he does
continue to post here, although not as frequently.

Time marches on.

tks (Since I'm still here, maybe I need to get a life!)
