The White Sox have some hitters and it was only a matter of time before that
all got into their hitting groove simultaneously as they are now.

The White Sox are winning like mad while that other team is sustaining
unfortunate injuries to starting players and starting to lose more and more
often.

At least Chicago looks to have one team in the post season and World Series.

Yeah, the Cubs HAVE lost two games in a row....and for the Cubs, that
is a major losing streak!

Of course, they have won 16 of the last 20, and still maintain the
best record in Baseball.

Still...they lost two games! There is reason to hope!

Yeah, it was a rough one. The first time the Cubs have gotten sept all
year. Hell, it's the first time the Cubs have lost three games in a
row.

I think it is three losses in a row with their best hitter on the DL and
their best pitcher heading there Friday. The bullpen is slumping and the
summer swoon from playing too many days game which necessitates odd travel
schedules and not enough rest beat summer to the arrival date.

But just three games is no cause for widespread panic and Soriano is coming
back this season. Zambrano may be just fine also but it is too early to
tell.

On the other side of town the White Sox are starting to look like The South
Side Hit Men from the days of yore and the stands are getting full of home
run balls hit out there by more different White Sox than I care to list
right now.

The Sox in the post-season looks like a real possibility.
But, the competition for the AL pennent is a tough road.
The damnyankees have won seven in a row with a sweep of
the Padres and move on to the Reds and the Pirates. Talk
about a weak schedule! But then the AL is feasting on
the NL.

Excuse me for correcting you again. Before tonight's
game they won 14 of the last 20 games.

Make it three with the White Sox this weekend, followed by
the O's (who are now 7-2 in interleague play - they wouldn't
have a winning record if it weren't for the opportunity to
play the NL), and then the White Sox come back to town.

I don't know what I liked the most about the bottom of the
seventh. Was it Marmol walking the first two batters and
hitting the next two to force in a run? Was it the grand
slam. Or was it Hinske stealing third to rub it in?

Seven runs on four hits (A homer, a triple, a double, and
a single) with two walks, two hit batsmen, and two errors
against three Cub relievers.

Gallagher did look great for the Cubs. He was not helped
offensively or defensively with Ramirez leaving 5 men
on base and with errors by Ramirez and Lee. He gave up
four hits, two walks, and an unearned run in six innings.

With the bullpen the Cubs have, there starters better be
ready to go the distance if they want to avoid being
swept in the next two series.

Even the schedule maker is against the Cubs this week. First they lose
their best pitcher and then they get swept and then they have to play a day
game Friday after flying all night. When things start to go wrong the
wheels really fall off. A team without its best hitter and starting pitcher
and the bullpen in a summer slump is not going to win many of the next
twenty games.

It has already been admitted that C. Zambrano will miss his next start and I
hope the news on his shoulder does not get any worse than a minor
irritation. He did not even get an MRI Thursday so they can line him up for
some sort of more serious test on Friday. I hate it when they keep the fans
in the dark that way.

I was looking forward to seeing both Chicago teams in the post season but
with the Cubs usual summer swoon starting so soon I am beginning to wonder.

But there is still a lot of baseball remaining to be play and it is what it
is. The contrast between icy World Series-winning manager Lou Piniella and
fiery World Series-winning manager Ozzie <bad words> Guillen would be a
matchup for the ages.
