Post subject: Weird Decisions By Jays' Front Office And Manager Re Menechino And
Archived from groups: alt>sports>baseball>tor-bluejays (more info?)

The Jays had a couple of tough breaks in their 6 to 5 loss to Kansas
City on Sunday. Well's injury and Ted Lily's wilting in the middle
innings apparently because of the 105 F. heat.

But their most serious problems or mistakes were self-inflicted. Wells'
misplaying a fly ball up near the wall in center field opened the flood
gates for a disastrous half inning.

And questions need to be asked as to why Frank Menechino, currently
hitting an anemic .230 is still being used as a right-handed DH when the
Jays have some much better bats in their farm system. We must ask why
Menechino is still with a team that is supposed to be building for the
future.

Another question for Ricciardi and Gibbons is why was pitcher Chad
Gaudin called up from Syracuse a second time? On his first trial with
the Jays he was awful, he did not do very much in Syracuse
and today he was brought in at crucial time during a tie game.

This castoff by Tampa Bay does not look at all impressive on the mound.
The Jays have some prospects in AAA, AA and at the A level whose stats
show that they have much better potential than Chad Gaudin. They should
be given a chance.
