OK,

So that's not likely to be the final team name... but the Expos have
been relocated to Washington DC officially. And they haven't renamed
the team yet - so for now, they are your Washington Expos.

And they are hiring! Today's Post indicated that Trader Jim Bowden
will be the team's interim GM. Looks like a good move to me - it'll be
interesting to see what type of budget the team comes up with for
player salaries.

If you want to work for the DC Expos,
www.teambuilderallaince.com/dcbaseball has more than 30 jobs listed -
from receptionist to MIS Director.

And MLB.com has gotten into the act with a nice addition to their site
- dcbaseball.mlb.com is up and running.

I'm excited about Baseball in DC! And cannot wait for tickets sales to
start - count me in for 2 for the full 81!

Just trying to stir it up in here for DC Baseball.

Mark

Wonder what the terms of the contract are. I think that the new
owners might want their own GM.

I'd count on that - but the team won't have owners until the end of
December - at best. Having a functioning GM - like his background or
not - gives the team a chance to offer contracts to its players,
evaluate their arbitration eligible players, grab some 6-year free
agents to stock the AAA team, handle the Rule 5 Draft (or is it Rule
V?), and the rest of those player personnel decisions.

I wonder of DC Expos President Tony Tavares has established a budget
for the roster yet?

The Washington Times is reporting that MLB has decided to go with
Washington Nationals as the new name for the relocated Expos. Better
than the Grays or Senators in my opinion.

Who do I have to call to get the newsgroup changed?

Call Bud Selig. He can change anything with a wave of his hand.

Go "Nats"

IIRC, you can't change the name. You will have to apply for a new
newsgroup. If I get some time this weekend, I'll research the process.

You're going to have a lot of stirring up to do when it turns out that your
City Council doesn't get the votes it needs to bass the bill for the new
stadium AND the former minority owners get their injunction blocking the
move! If you are still "in for 2 for the full 81" despite this, the number
to call is 1-800-GOEXPOS, see you at Olympic Stadium in '05!! Baseball back
in Washington, yeah right...

Well Dave,

I beg to differ - it looks like DC Mayor Williams has the votes as
well as support from flip-flopping COncil Member Linda Croppe.

I'm fairly confidant that no matter what happens, there will be
baseball in DC in 2005. Now, if the mayor and the COuncil screw it up
- 2006 could be a different story.

As for the minority owners' suit, that's all about money. If that
group of owners wins, then they'll get cut in to the sales of Les
Expos to a DC ownership group. If that group could have afforded the
Expos, they would have bought them out years ago. Les Expos can't go
back to Montreal and be owned by MLB another year. Montreal got
screwed by MLB in 94 and again in 98 when they tried to contract the
team, so, the fans rolled over and died and took the team with them.
The Twins still draw 1.9Million fans.

I'm not denying that there aren't baseball fans in MOntreal - you
sound like one - there just aren't enough of them.
